The Cisco Catalyst C1200-48T-4X Ethernet Switch is a reliable, high-density edge switch designed to empower growing networks with simple management and scalable performance. Featuring 48 x 10/100/1000 Ethernet ports for flexible desktop connectivity and 4 x 10-Gigabit SFP+ uplinks for fast aggregation, this model is ideal for small to mid-sized offices, branch locations, and distributed environments that demand dependable LAN performance without sacrificing ease of use. Built to integrate with existing Cisco infrastructures, the Catalyst 1200 series emphasizes straightforward deployment, robust security, and efficient traffic handling—helping IT teams deliver solid networking foundations while keeping operational complexity in check.

  • 48 x 10/100/1000 Ethernet ports for flexible access — Connect a broad range of endpoint devices with reliable copper connectivity, enabling immediate edge access and simplified cable management for desks, conference rooms, and classrooms. This port density supports scalable growth as you add users and devices without needing immediate core upgrades.
  • 4 x 10-Gigabit SFP+ uplinks for scalable aggregation — The four high-speed uplinks provide ample headroom to connect to distribution layers, core switches, or data-center edge devices. This allows your network to grow from a simple access layer to a capable intermediate aggregation tier capable of handling increasing traffic from voice, video, and large-file workloads.
  • Advanced switching features at Layer 2 — Implement VLANs for traffic segmentation, private VLANs for enhanced security in shared environments, port security to limit device access, and broadcast storm control to maintain performance during traffic surges. These capabilities deliver enterprise-grade reliability in a compact, easy-to-manage switch suitable for SMBs and branch sites.
  • Quality of Service (QoS) and traffic management — Prioritize latency-sensitive applications such as VoIP and video conferencing, ensuring consistent performance for critical workflows. With flexible QoS policies, you can optimize bandwidth allocation across VLANs and port groups to meet service goals.
  • Easy management and reliable operation — Access the Catalyst 1200 family through a user-friendly Web GUI and a powerful CLI, enabling quick setup, ongoing monitoring, and straightforward troubleshooting. Cisco’s familiar management framework simplifies standardization across devices and makes day-to-day administration accessible to IT staff with varying levels of experience.

how to install Cisco Catalyst C1200-48T-4X

Installing the Cisco Catalyst C1200-48T-4X is straightforward for IT staff familiar with basic LAN equipment. Start by planning the placement in a well-ventilated area, ideally in a dedicated network rack or cabinet with proper cable management to keep airflow unobstructed. Before power-on, verify that you have the correct power cord, mounting brackets (if rack-mounting), and the latest firmware recommended by Cisco. A smooth installation typically follows these steps:

  • Mount the switch in a rack or position it on a stable surface, ensuring adequate clearance for ventilation and convenient access to ports and the management console.
  • Connect the 4 x 10G SFP+ uplink ports to your upstream network devices—such as distribution switches, a core switch, or a router for Internet access—using appropriate SFP+ transceivers and fiber or twinax cables as required.
  • Attach the power supply and turn the unit on. Allow the device to boot and reach readiness; connect a management workstation to one of the 48 Ethernet ports or to the console port if available for initial configuration.
  • Perform the initial configuration using the Web UI or the Cisco CLI. Set a management IP address, configure basic VLANs, and establish security policies such as port security and ACLs to control access.
  • Test connectivity by placing a client on a designated access port, verifying VLAN tagging, and ensuring that uplinks reach the core or Internet gateway. Validate QoS rules by simulating real-world traffic such as a VoIP call and a video stream to confirm priority behavior.

Frequently asked questions

  • Q: Is the Cisco Catalyst C1200-48T-4X PoE-capable?
A: PoE support depends on the exact SKU. The base model focuses on 48 x 10/100/1000 ports and 4 x 10G uplinks; some variants may include PoE capabilities or require an external power solution. Check the specific SKU’s datasheet or product page for PoE availability and power budget details.
  • Q: What is the ideal deployment scenario for this switch?
A: It is well-suited for small to mid-sized offices, branch sites, and SMBs that need dense edge connectivity with high-speed uplinks for aggregation. It can serve as an edge or access-layer switch within a Cisco-centric network while enabling straightforward management and future growth.
  • Q: Can I stack or consolidate multiple Catalyst 1200 switches?
A: The Catalyst 1200 series can be deployed as standalone devices or integrated into a broader Cisco network. Specific stacking or cross-device capabilities depend on the exact model and firmware; consult Cisco’s official documentation for guidance on interoperability with other Cisco switches.
  • Q: What management tools are supported?
A: The switch supports Cisco’s familiar management tools, including a Web-based Graphical User Interface (GUI) and a Command Line Interface (CLI). It also supports common network management protocols such as SNMP for monitoring and alerting, enabling centralized administration in larger environments.
  • Q: Which network features are included for security and performance?
A: Expect core Layer 2 features such as VLANs, ACLs, and port security, plus QoS for traffic prioritization. Depending on the SKU, there may be additional security options like DHCP snooping and storm control to maintain performance and protect endpoints.

Cheap looking and extremely wide
Looks and feels cheap, made with cheap materials. The shoe is so wide, and even though it has laces that could be pulled tight, there's no way to tie them off and make the shoe fit. The color was exactly as pictured. I had to return them because they flopped around on my feet making them unwearable.

True to size
Size: 9.5, Color: Tusk
I want to start off by saying I ordered a 9 and 1/2 and these fit perfectly so they are true to size. They are fairly comfortable in the heel isn't too high but is wide so they're very stable to walk in. They look great and can be styled in a variety of ways I have worn them with jeans but also a nice sundress and it works both ways. I've been wearing these for several months and they've held up really well and still look great.

Daughter ranks it 5/5. I rank them 4/5 due to heel comfort.
Size: 8, Color: Black, Size: 8, Color: Black
My foot is 9.44 inches long which usually places me in a 7.5. For this chart, it suggested the size 8. It's a perfect fit. The back zipper is easy enough to use. You don't even really need to undo the top strap once you have it adjusted to your preferred spot. My foot is narrow to normal around the heel and I'm wider in the toe box. These heels accommodate that well. I have plenty of room around my toes. The toe strap isn't smashing down either. The shoes seems well-made. The straps do not have a threads hanging. There's no sloppy glue drips around the bed. The bottom is strong and the heel is solid. I'm not a huge fan of thicker/chunky heel looks usually. I like the skinner heel styles mostly but ... there's a big positive to the chunky heels. They're very easy to walk in. Great heels for non-formal occasions. The bottom is not slippery. The cushioning around the toes in very nice. My only complaint is that the cushioning by the heel feels inadequate- especially at this price. It feels like you're walking on a block of wood. For that reason, I gave them to my middle schooler. She's thrilled. She pranced around the house in them testing them out for herself. She adjusted well to walking in them and she finds them comfy.
