  • 2 green chilies, slit
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil
  • Curry leaves and salt to taste

Instructions:

  1. Heat coconut oil in a pan and sauté onions until golden brown.
  2. Add ginger-garlic paste, green chilies, curry leaves, and sauté until fragrant.
  3. Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and coriander powder, and cook for a minute.
  4. Add cleaned clams, salt, and a little water, and cook until the clams open.
  5. Add grated coconut and cook on low heat for another 5 minutes.
  6. Serve hot with rice or chapati.

Indian Recipe 2: Marwai Curry (Clam Coconut Curry)

Ingredients:

  • 500g clams, cleaned
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 2 green chilies
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 cup thick coconut milk
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil
  • Curry leaves and salt to taste

Instructions:

  1. Heat coconut oil in a pan and sauté onions until translucent.
  2. Add ginger-garlic paste, green chilies, and curry leaves, and sauté for a minute.
  3. Add tomatoes, turmeric powder, and red chili powder, and cook until the tomatoes turn soft.
  4. Add clams, salt, and a little water. Cook until the clams open.
  5. Stir in coconut milk and simmer for 5 minutes.
  6. Serve hot with rice or appam.

Indian Recipe 3: Tandoori Marwai (Grilled Clams)

Ingredients:

  • 500g clams, cleaned
  • 2 tablespoons yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander for garnish

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, mix yogurt, turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala, lemon juice, ginger-garlic paste, and salt.
  2. Marinate the cleaned clams in this mixture for 30 minutes.
  3. Preheat the grill to medium heat. Grill the marinated clams for 5-7 minutes or until they are lightly charred and cooked.

Non-Indian Recipe 1: Clam Chowder

Ingredients:

  • 500g clams, cleaned and chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 1 cup cream
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup vegetable broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Melt butter in a large pot over medium heat. Sauté onions and garlic until soft.
  2. Add diced potatoes and vegetable broth. Cook until potatoes are tender.
  3. Add clams and simmer for 10 minutes.
  4. Stir in cream, salt, and pepper. Simmer for another 5 minutes.

So, as other reviewers make clear, this is very similar to Pack Darling and The Beta. It’s much closer aligned with The Beta, in plot and maybe more like Pack Darling with characters. That being said, I don’t hate this…..but it wasn’t great either. It’s both books mentioned but just….less. Less angst, less emotion, less feeling. The plot feels very half fleshed out, and the “bad guy” feels underwhelming. I didn’t really feel any real emotions from and of the male leads, except maybe Oliver. The others fell sorta flat for me. And Mika makes herself out to be this big bad ass straight outta training and then we never see it from here again with the one fitting room incident as the exception. SPOILER: The whole, “Oh, I’m actually probably an Omega, but I don’t wanna be but I do actually wanna be but no one can ever know my secret that I do nothing to hide “ thing fell so flat. She never commutes to believing she was secretly an omega, but also mentions her “secret” a lot. It just felt so manufactured. I’m intrigued enough to read part 2 and see how the author closes everything out, but this is not one I’ll recommend or ever come back to.

I love this type of story. And omegaverse is one of my all time favorite genres. But there are a few things that pulled me out of my enjoyment while I was reading. It was repetitive at times as well as struggled with telling not showing. So we didn’t always feel like we were experiencing things with the main character. There were also some plot holes but they may still be answered in part 2. Now this isn’t to be said I didn’t enjoy parts of the story. I loved the almost instant love between Mila and Oliver. And how he started changing around her.
