The MAXTRAX Fuse Shackle is a critical safety component within the MAXTRAX Recovery System, designed to act as the intentional point of controlled failure if the system becomes overloaded. Constructed from ultra-durable materials, this soft shackle is purpose-built for safe, predictable performance when it matters most.

Mandatory Use: To ensure proper function and safety, the Fuse Shackle must always be used during any vehicle recovery involving MAXTRAX equipment. It is not interchangeable with third-party products, and the complete recovery system has been tested exclusively using MAXTRAX components.

How It Works

In the event of excessive force during a recovery, the Fuse Shackle is engineered to fail before any other component—minimizing damage to vehicles and reducing the risk of injury. Always connect using rated recovery points and pair only with MAXTRAX equipment such as the Hitch, Kinetic Rope, Static Rope, or Winch Rope.

Quick Setup Instructions

1. Inspect the Fuse Shackle before each use for damage, wear, or fraying.

2. Loosen the loop enough to slide it over the knot.

3. Pass the loop through your recovery gear or vehicle’s rated recovery point.

4. Slide the loop back over the knot, or push the knot through the loop.

5. Tighten securely, ensuring the knot rests at a 90-degree angle to the loop.

6. Attach a recovery damper to the rope or shackle.

7. Use MAXTRAX Recovery Boards to reduce stress on equipment.

8. Clear the area of all bystanders.

9. Begin the recovery by slowly taking up slack.

10. If unsuccessful, repeat with slightly more momentum.

Care & Maintenance

MAXTRAX Recovery gear is built to last—but off-road conditions are harsh. For optimal safety and product life:

• Always inspect for cuts, frays, burns, or abrasions before and after use.

• Do not use if the shackle shows signs of damage or lacks a legible warning label.

• After use, rinse with fresh water and allow to air dry completely.

• Store indoors or inside a MAXTRAX Recovery Kit Bag to avoid weather exposure.

• Replacement protective sheaths are available for extended protection.

Safety Recommendations

• Select a rope or shackle with a minimum breaking strength 2–3x your vehicle’s GVM (Gross Vehicle Mass).

• Choose the rating based on the lighter of the two vehicles involved in the recovery.

Important Safety Guidelines

• Only use MAXTRAX components in your MAXTRAX recovery system.

• Never use the shackle for lifting or towing.

• Avoid using when wet, as strength and elasticity may decrease.

• Always drape a recovery damper, blanket, or bag over the strap or rope.

• All passengers must:

  • Exit both vehicles

  • Stand well clear of recovery zone

  • Avoid standing in line with the recovery direction
