This professional blend of loam, soft sand, and limestone grit replicates the natural sandy soils of their habitats, encouraging digging, burrowing, and grazing behaviours. The inclusion of limestone provides a natural calcium source if ingested, while the balanced mix retains moisture without becoming waterlogged, creating a healthy and naturalistic environment.

• Mimics natural sandy-soil environments of Mediterranean and Russian tortoises

Spread evenly across the enclosure floor to a depth of at least 5cm for juveniles and 15cm or more for adults, particularly Russian tortoises that burrow extensively. Areas can be lightly misted to create localised humidity zones while avoiding over-saturation. Spot clean daily, removing faeces and soiled substrate, and replace fully every two to three weeks. Combine with décor such as rocks, plants, or moss to provide enrichment and create a more natural habitat.
