Eponymous debut album from London trio Jessicas Brother, comprised of songwriter Tom Charleston, Jonny Helm (The Wave Pictures) and Charlie Higgs (Ramshackle Union Band). Channelling the spirit of the Brothers Grimm to create an otherworldly atmosphere, they weave their influences together making a rich and eclectic vision, with nods to Silver Jews, Jason Molina, Nick Cave, Richard Thompson and Neil Young. There are themes of joy, anger and silliness in a carefully crafted world with a colourful cast of characters. The trio formed in October 2016 and just nine months later they recorded the album with Laurie Sherman with input from Darren Hayman. A few other friends joined them including Dan Mayfield (Enderbys Room), who added a dose of Bad Seeds/Dirty Three vibes on the violin and Paul Rains (Allo Darlin/Tigercats) on guitar. Tom Charlestons songwriting is influenced more by poets than other musicians, he cites John Ashbery, T. S. Eliot and Philip Larkin as inspirations. Ten startling individual vignettes tell their own stories from a variety of narrators points of view. One Of The Guys, about the toxic nature of being one of the guys in a predatory pack. Overnight Horror revolves around the macho-masculine nightmare where, as Charleston explains, the world has gone head-over-heels shitward and the narrator is reduced to selling his daughter or his wife to stay alive. All The Better, is a hushed, eerie folk song exploring the melancholy and optimism of breaching adolescence and the limbo before adulthood. Weaving a variety of influences from jangly indie-rock to gothic country and contemplative psych folk, Jessicas Brother create the sound of a band coming together and getting caught up in the rush of starting new and enjoyable. Jessicas Brothers shambling nerdcore is clearly a passion project intended to please only themselves. Well these tablets taste intensely sweet. There is no possiblity that any of the orginal flavor might be detected. They chew with vigours crunching noises. The directions don't say anything about taking it with food but I think it was faintly better with food than an empty stomach. On the whole the experience was like eating candy.
But you gotta be careful about how they work. Like any fiber you need to get used to taking it and in the interim you will experience gas and bloating. It's been ten days since I started and the gas hasn't gone away. The tablets seem to take about 24-48 hours before I could perceive any effect.
I don't perceive ANY softening of the stools. They seem to be as hardened as ever no matter how much water I drink before, during or after. . However the amazing amounts of gas produced propels the pellets out as if from an air gun. You should not allow any adolescents anywhere near you. You will instantly aquire a neighborhood wide reputation for setting the longest fart record *ever*. The gases do coincide with the number of intervals between doses so pellets are expelled with projectile force at regular intervals during the day. While the results may seem unimpressive apparently they add up and I no longer experience blockages.
5 stars normally but extra stars because your kids will regard you with new respect.

Great Product, Works as Advertised
Flavor Name: Unflavored, Size: 1.46 Pound (Pack of 1)
This product works exactly as described. It makes BM's smoother and gentler. I personally use the unflavored, no sweeteners added version, and honestly, it does not taste very good, but I feel that the results are worth it, and I do not like adding extra sweeteners or flavorings to my diet. I have used this product for many years and have found that about 1 1/2 to 2 tbsps in 12 ounces of water works the best for me. You will need to experiment a bit to find the ratio that works best for you. I recommend that you start on the low side and gradually increase the amount of Metamucil as needed.
