"Fare Trax" is a new album by Portland Oregon based Campfires. The last one, "Tomorrow, Tomorrow", came out about 5 years ago, also on Fire Talk. During those 5 years Campfires existed as a live band, watched seasons pass and eventually Jeff and his wife had a baby daughter named Lucy, named after "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds". He wrote a song for her while she was still in the womb. Unsurprisingly, that one is called "Lucy's Song", and is the last song on this album. Recorded on the Oregon coast a few months ago in a house overlooking the sea and finished in Portland in a practice space that shares a wall with some local favorites, so you can hear Lithics practicing as "Grand Central Song" fades out. The record is an amalgamation of influences, the Kinks are in there and early Byrds with the aesthetics of raw 60s garage and early 80s punk or anorak pop like Television Personalities & stuff from Sarah Records. Some of the poppier Velvets tunes are a touchstone too, then there's ambient music and experimental tape work. A guazey take on folk music, refined and perfected over 10 years, it's tenderness is complimented by honest and sincere songwriting presented in all it's ramshackle glory.01. Meanwhile02. a sweet romance read

if you're looking for something sweet and hopelessly romantic with yearning, look no further.
i enjoy a fake dating trope, but combine it with a longtime reunion w a former best friend who was an unrequited love and set it in nyc, and i'm eating it up.
The Lover and the Archer, they’d call it. The girl who kept falling in love, and the boy who could receive love from whomever he aimed his heart at.
i liked how dani was at school for fashion bc it took me back to my fashion construction class days in high school (honestly was SO lucky to have that) - it's a fun industry to explore as a career/study for fmc that i haven't really seen much. sometimes dani did have that "not like glamorous girls, i'm into vintage and different" thing going but it wasn't overwhelming.
I’d be lying if I said I never thought about where my hands would take me across your body.
levi was definitely a soft boy mmc, it was so clear he was head over heels for dani but it made them being ridiculous about each other funny and the tension heightened. also he writes POETRY in FRENCH?? hello, dreamboat!!! i do think the plotline of him and the ex bella could've been stronger esp as it fizzles out a bit but i didn't care for her character much anyways to begin with, so i'm not complaining lol.

there is a bit of grief dealt with as both dani and levi have lost their fathers, but it's not a main focus and doesn't overshadow the love story.
“You intoxicate me, Daisy. The scent of flowers lingers on you everywhere you go, and I always want to follow”
overall, it was a sweet romantic read and perfect for spring! ✿

The Yearning!

Loved this read! It was a great pallet cleanser after the normalization of “spice”.
Very cute moments, Levi is my ideal dream of a smart nerdy bf, I cried when I realized the lack of them in real life.
Dani’s internal struggle with insecurity is very realistic and made me reflect on my lived experiences (minus the romance unfortunately).
I did have my moments of rolling my eyes to the back skull at Dani being dense, but the ending made up for it!
