Umeko Ando (1932-2004) was a folk singer from Japan. She was a representative of the Ainu culture on the Hokkaido Island in the north of Japan. Ihunke is her first album which was recorded with the Ainu musician and dub producer Oki Kano in 2000. It was released on CD in Japan only and is finally available on vinyl. Ihunke follows 2017's single Iuta Upopo (PING 058EP) which had been received with overwhelming enthusiasm and was quickly sold out. The 16 Ainu songs on Ihunke are delicate, natural gems. They are built on Oki Kano's tonkori patterns (a five-string harp), over which Umeko Ando develops her repetitive, mantric vocals, often in a call-and-response manner. Oki Kano is one of very few professional tonkori players who performs worldwide with his Oki Dub Ainu Band. The songs possess a mystical energy - when crows call accurately with Ando's brittle voice in the first song, it seems like natural powers join in with her music. Her voice sounds like animals of the sky and the forest. Oki Kano: "It was a lot of fun to record with Umeko Ando. Many Ainu hesitate to break from tradition - if Umeko hadn't been so flexible to work with the younger generation and recording technology, this album would never have happened. Our sessions were intense, and we were proud and happy about making such beautiful music." Only recently (in 2008) have the Ainu officially been acknowledged as indigenous people who are culturally independent from Japan. This record is an example of how their music has been passed on through generations in the underground Ainu communities while it was oppressed by the Japanese hegemony. It deserves a huge audience. Serious and Funny at the Same time

This graphic novel is four issues and fills the reader in on events during a special Star Wars Crossover called Dark Droids, of which includes issues from Star Wars (2020), Doctor Aphra, Darth Vader, and Bounty Hunters. In D-Squad, R2-D2 is on a mission to find a way to save his friend, C-3PO, who has been taken over by the Spark Eternal. Apparently, droids are far easier to corrupt than organic life forms, and the Spark makes its way through many droids.
Along the way, R2 finds a mis-matched crew of droids to help bring the Spark's scourge to an end. Ultimately seeking the help of Ajax Sigma, a droid from the High Republic era whose core is later found by Han and Chewbacca, and he is rebuilt in the age of the Empire. R2 believes Ajax's core and experience over various centuries might be enough to end the Spark's scourge.
I love the art in this collection. One can't really go wrong with droids. We get some fan favorites from across the various series, as well as some new characters and old friends. The dialogue is, as you can imagine between beep-booping droids, quite top tier. Overall, it was a really fun edition and setup for the crossover.

Comic story is great, but actual comic arrived in terrible condition

Book arrived bent and warped. Same package contained two comics but only this one was warped. The paperback covers are also a centimeter too short width wise on both front and back.

A disappointing "Dark Droids" tie-in.

A tie-in miniseries-of-sorts to the main “Dark Droids” event, “Star Wars: Dark Droids: D-Squad” is, unfortunately, all too characteristic of typical comic book event “addendums”: lots of flash, little substance. To be fair, writer Marc Guggenheim does what he can to flesh out the core story, which involves a squad of droids, all of whom are pulled from the various ongoing “Star Wars” titles – forming the titular “D-Squad” – to take on the Scourge threat from the main “Dark Droids” event. The problem is that too much of the series feels like it’s spinning in circles – there’s a frustrating lack of narrative momentum here, and the result is a story that, frustratingly, revs to life only in spurts.
Not a terrible comic, but considering the overall quality of the “Dark Droids” event as a whole, a disappointing one.

Extremely Satisfied
This is a gift for my daughter and I looked at it making sure it works base on former reviews. At first the lid wouldn’t close and it was extremely disappointed but my husband laughed and said hold the lid and turn the handle. It then will latch and stay close. So now I’m extremely satisfied lol

Classic Toy That Never Gets Old!
