When Five Horse Johnson formed back in 1995, referring to themselves as a "blues band," a few brows might well have been furrowed. But this is a band that has always understood that the blues isn't a formula - it's a way of looking at the world. Their take on the blooze is as a dirty, sensual thing, enhanced with a healthy dose of humor. From the slow, bluesy stomp of the title-track, to the dirge vibe of "Daddy Was a Gun" - a story of some weird goings-on in a strange parish - Jake Leg Boogie is pure old school FHJ, recorded live, everyone in the same room, with as little overdubbing as possible. Accordingly, it feels lively and loud in the MC5-come-Hendrix vibe of "Hard Times," the hard-rocking "Magic Man" (a tale of depravity set in the town of Springfield, MO), and the near-Texan boogie of "Smoke Show." Jake Leg Boogie was recorded at Rustbelt Studios, with longtime producer Al Sutton (Big Chief, Novadriver, Halfway to Gone, Detroit Cobras) at the production helm, with a definitive nod to Dave Cobb (All Them Witches, Rival Sons). Artwork provided by noted graphic artist and FHJ-collaborator Mark Dancey, keeping with a tradition established on 1999's Fat Black Pussycat. Five Horse Johnson is not a band that makes apologies, and compromise is not an option. The truth is, this is hard, heavy, dirty blues rock 'n' roll for people who like the sound of an engine roaring or the feeling obtained by following a cold beer with a shot of good whiskey. Comfortable Cotton-Linen Shorts, True to Size and Breathable

These shorts are lightweight, comfortable, and have a relaxed fit that works well for casual summer wear. A size large is my usual size, and these fit as expected with no tight spots and no baggy crotch area. The 7‑inch inseam falls just above my knee and allows easy movement when sitting, walking, or bending.
The fabric has a soft, linen‑like feel without being rough, and it is thin and breathable, which helps in hot weather. Because the material is on the thin side, I am glad I chose black; with a lighter color like white, I would be a little concerned about show‑through. The overall look is casual with a slight beachwear vibe from the drawstring and natural wrinkles.
The elastic waistband is comfortable, and the drawstring goes all the way around the waist and can actually cinch for a more secure fit. There are two full‑size front pockets plus one open back pocket. The fabric content was not listed on the garment itself, so I am relying on the product description.
After washing, there was no noticeable shrinkage. I air‑dried them and there were some wrinkles, so light ironing may be needed if you prefer a smoother look. For casual wear around the house, at the beach, for travel, or everyday errands, they offer good value.

Comfortable, Lightweight, and Perfect for Summer
I got these shorts for my husband, and he loves them. The cotton-linen blend is lightweight and breathable, making them perfect for hot weather, vacations, or just relaxing on the weekends.
The elastic waistband and drawstring provide a comfortable fit, and the 7-inch inseam is a great length—not too short and not too long. They look casual but still put together, and the pockets are a nice bonus.
They washed well and held their shape nicely. Overall, these are stylish, comfortable summer shorts that my husband reaches for often. Great value for the price!

Very comfortable and cool shorts

These cotton linen summer shorts are definitely "casual" shorts. Great for around the house, the beach, or hiking. I would not wear them out on a dinner date as they wrinkle quite easily. They are well made and comfortable. The stitching is nice and tight and there are no loose threads, so I feel they are durable. The Medium size was slightly snug, yet comfortable. The sizing chart recommended that I get Large and I think they would have fit better. These shorts are lightweight and keep you nice and cool. I do like that the back pocket has a button to help secure your wallet. The black color looks good with just about anything.
I have a couple of very minor issues, but worth mentioning. The drawstring seems excessively long to me and gets tangled in the wash. Not a major concern, but slightly annoying. The other issue is the button and zipper. These shorts have a sturdy waist band as well as a drawstring, so why have a button and zipper? Possibly for aesthetic purposes?
Overall, these are comfortable shorts that fit well and look good for casual shorts. They will keep you nice and cool. For the price, they are a good buy.

Nice cotton summer shorts with a touch of linen

These are a nice addition to my summer short wardrobe. They add a different look and texture than most of my shorts that are cotton. The addition of linen adds a nice texture to them and you can tell they are visibly unique. I ordered these in a medium and I think they are true to size. The have an elastic top instead of a button/zipper. I'm o.k. with it and they are nice to just throw on. I'm not a fan of the string around the waist. My first picture has it hanging down and I quickly removed it...not needed with the elastic band holding up the shorts. I guess it could be a fashion statement if you wanted it to be. The shorts are very light weight and I can see using them in the hotter months that are approaching. Price point is great!

Comfortable shorts!

I ordered these because I wanted some lightweight comfortable shorts for the summer that were now gym shorts.
These are very comfortable shorts. Lightweight cotton material that is not stretchy and it breathes well. The size fits exactly as expected according to the measurements. They also have an elastic waistband with drawstring, but also have a button and zipper, which I found odd, but don’t hate.
These shorts have two big pockets in the front, large enough for keys and a cell phone. Deep enough to put your entire hand in. The single back pocket is perfect sized for a wallet, and it has a button that secures the pocket, so no losing the wallet in the movie theater or restaurant.
The color is a true black, which I’m sure will fade in the future after many washes, but for now, it is dark and black, not like some that look more navy blue than black. The stitching is also done well.
These are probably my new favorite pair of shorts that are comfy able enough to wear around the house when just lounging, but also nice enough to wear out to dinner. Well worth the price, will probably buy another pair in a different color soon.
