Rodney Crowell's new album, Close Ties, demonstrates his strengths as a songwriter and illustrates how he has learned to balance personal recollection, literary sophistication, and his profound musical reach. Close Ties is at once his most intimate record and his most accessible, the product of years of understanding the ways songs can enter - and be entered by - life. "It's a loose concept album, you could say," Crowell says. "And the concept is related to how you tell stories about yourself. Having a few years ago written a memoir, my sensibilities toward narrative - especially trying to find a common thread in different pieces of writing - had become a part of my songwriting process." Close Ties is a roots record, in the sense that Crowell himself has deep roots that stretch back into the alternative country scene of the early seventies. The rise of Americana music has struck a nerve with Crowell. "I have declared my loyalty to Americana. It's a hard category for people to get their heads around, or at least the terminology is. But all the people who represent it - Townes van Zandt, Guy Clark, Lucinda Williams, Steve Earle and more recent stars like John Paul White and Jason Isbell - share a common thread, and that thread is poetry. Whether they are actual poets or their music exemplifies a poetic sensibility, generally speaking, the Americana artist shuns commercial compromise in favor of a singular vision. Which resonates with me." There is also a powerful undercurrent of the blues running through the record. "Recently, I think - I hope - that my study of the blues is starting to show up in my music. Those artists, whether it's Lightnin' Hopkins or John Lee Hooker or the acoustic Delta players, connected to something fundamental. With that in mind, I'm trying to move forward but also get back there."

Among the best!
The only automatic wine opener I found with five stars. Used it daily since purchased and agree (thus far) it has earned every one of them. I have several bottles with stubborn corks that challenge every manual opener I've had. This tool handles them with ease. Especially neat is the way it "spits out" the cork after extraction. Very attractively and well packaged. Add a little gift paper and you're set.
(Daily use since purchased and not even close to needing to be charged).

Nice features
I have only had this item a few weeks. But I like it very much. It’s better than the one it replaced. I like that I only have to press and release the button to pull out the cork and then it releases the cork automatically. Only charged once so far and is still fully charged. Also a blue LED is lit when cork is being removed and a red LED is lit when it is releasing the cork.

Don't Waste Your Money!
I thought this was going to be good. First bottle opened OK, though the device obviously struggled to get the cork out. Used for 3 or 4 bottles. on the last two, I had to manually turn the device to get the corkscrew in - then pull the cork out. Cork is in the device and it won't come out. UNFORTUNATELY I THREW OUT THE PACKAGING, SO NOT SURE WHAT IF ANYTHING I CAN DO WITH IT OTHER THAN THROW IT OUT. NOTE: I did try recharging the device after each use, though it made no difference.

Works great! Better than a Rabbit brand
This is an awesome opener. My husband originally got me one for Christmas for our lake place. Everyone that uses it loves it. I had a r
Rabbit brand at home and it finally wore out, but never worked as awesome as this one. My old one also required it to sit in a plastic base as a means of charging versus a cord I can simply plug in and hide. I like this style better because I can put it on a cute little tray. To work it, you simply push a button and it pull the cork out and then releases it without having to hit a different button. This one was on sale too, so extra bonus.
