Patek Philippe Nautilus 3800 Second Series – The Refined Evolution of a Legend

When Gérald Genta unveiled the Patek Philippe Nautilus in 1976, the world saw a new vision of luxury sport watches—bold, architectural, and unapologetically elegant. By 1981, Patek refined this vision into the reference 3800, a more compact, versatile interpretation that maintained the unmistakable “porthole” design while offering refined proportions for every wrist. This example, a second-series model circa 1987–1992, stands as a masterclass in balanced design and horological integrity.

Nautilus Heritage – From Icon to Classic

Born from the original 3700’s daring concept, the 3800 carried forward Genta’s design DNA—the octagonal bezel, horizontally embossed dial, and integrated bracelet—while introducing subtle updates and a more wearable 37mm case. This was Patek Philippe’s answer to collectors who desired the Nautilus’s spirit in a sleeker, more understated form.

Produced from 1981 until 2006, the 3800 became a cornerstone of Patek’s late-20th-century catalogue and remains one of the most collectible references of the line.

Design & Presence – Gold Steel Elegance

The gold and steel case and bracelet offer a harmonious contrast of tones—cool steel balanced by warm gold accents. Lightly polished, the surfaces retain sharp definition along the signature Nautilus ridges and hinge-like flanks. The integrated bracelet, with two additional links, will comfortably fit wrists up to 19cm.

The sapphire crystal preserves clarity and modern durability, while the original crown underscores the watch’s untouched authenticity. The case, in excellent condition, exhibits the solid feel and fluid geometry that have defined the Nautilus for generations.

Dial – A Study in Subtle Sophistication

This particular model features a rare white cream ceramic dial, adorned with golden applied Roman numerals and the discreet “σ SWISS σ” signature—an emblem of solid gold hands and markers. A black date disk, characteristic of early examples, provides a visual counterpoint and hints at the transitional nature of this production era.

Under close inspection, a minor central mark reminds us of its lived history, yet the dial overall radiates warmth and patina—a serene, balanced aesthetic that only time can impart.

Heart of the Watch – Calibre 335 SC

At its core beats Patek Philippe’s in-house Calibre 335 SC, an automatic movement celebrated for its reliability, fine finishing, and quick-set date function—a practical evolution over earlier Nautilus calibres.

The oscillating weight winds efficiently and quietly, and the smooth sweep of the seconds hand underscores the precision of Patek’s engineering ethos. For connoisseurs, it represents the sweet spot between mechanical refinement and daily usability.

Provenance & Completeness

This example comes complete with its original box, papers (excluding the certificate of origin), and both the inner Patek Philippe presentation box and outer cardboard case. An Extract from the Archives has been officially ordered and is expected to arrive by late 2025 or early 2026—a testament to the watch’s verified lineage.

Such completeness is increasingly rare and adds both narrative and collectible value to this already distinguished timepiece.

Why This Watch?

The Patek Philippe Nautilus 3800 is more than a smaller sibling to the 3700—it’s a refined evolution, balancing sport and sophistication with perfect poise. This two-tone example, with its creamy ceramic dial and early-series features, encapsulates the quiet confidence that defines true luxury.

For collectors seeking a Nautilus with heritage, elegance, and complete presentation, this 3800 stands as a superb example of Patek Philippe’s mastery in proportion and timeless design.

A modern classic born from the hand of Gérald Genta—distinct, desirable, and enduring.

At least they are sterile
These are funny being advertised as dermaplane because they are packaged as scalpels. The 5 scalpels are individually wrapped, and labeled sterile. As the price indicates, they are on the cheap side. Which is fine, they work, but they aren’t terribly sharp so you have to scrape a bit harder than preferred. For dermaplaning I prefer the schick ones as they have tiny serrations which cut the hair better than anything else I have found so far.

Blades are not sharp and will not remove peach fuzz, even after two swipes
Color: #10 - Pack of 21 (20 Blades + 1 Handle)
I was really disappointed in this. It did not remove all of the peach fuzz completely and I dermaplaned twice back to back. Which tells me the blades aren’t as sharp as they’re made out to be. The blade handle was sturdy and seemed to be made of good quality. But the blades themselves are horrible at cutting and aren’t razor sharp. I personally wouldn’t purchase this if I were you. I’ll keep the blade handle, but I will definitely be purchasing different blades.

Good quality!
Color: #14R - Pack of 21 (20 Blades + 1 Handle)
If you are looking to dermaplane at home obviously be careful but if you are looking into getting scalpels, these are good quality and come in a big pack where it will last you a while! Remember dermaplaning is once every four weeks and make sure you have no active breakouts!
