"Gaze at the buildings and read the accounts of the people who walked the same streets more than 450 years ago; you will be transformed into a time traveler."--Thomas Graham, author of Mr. Flagler's St. Augustine

In 2013, National Geographic Traveler chose St. Augustine as one of "20 must-see places and best trips in the world." But while tourists take in the fort and stroll the cobblestone streets, few visitors are aware of the remarkable history of this oldest continuously occupied European-established settlement in the continental United States.

Walking St. Augustine fuses illustrated history and intimate handbook. The author, Elsbeth "Buff" Gordon, one of the city's most highly regarded historians, is also a resident and offers insider tips for exciting adventures.

Gordon divides the colonial village into sections, all easily walked in a single day. She guides visitors through Plaza de la Constitucion, the oldest public park in America, and down the same avenues walked by the first Spanish settlers. She vividly retells landmark events, highlights areas of architectural or historic interest, delves into the genealogy of the multicultural families that have made St. Augustine home, and offers human stories and heritage recipes passed down through the centuries.

With this vibrantly rendered, easy-to-use, and color-coded guide, visitors can walk the seldom-visited south end of the city, which includes the earliest residential area with streets dating back to 1572, and stop in at the Flagler College complex, its more recent history illuminated by its architectural perfection. Gordon suggests visiting the Colonial Quarter Living History Museum, and for those looking to venture beyond walking distance, the Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park, Anastasia Island, and Fort Mose, the nation's first legally free black settlement.

Walking St. Augustine opens the doors to a spellbinding city, allowing visitors to discover five centuries of gripping history.

Make your life a work of art
Format: Kindle
These passages drawn from all the world's great spiritual traditions coupled with enthusiastic sustained practice of Eknath Easwaran s 8point program can provide depth and meaning to one's life and a greater understanding of what the check it is we are all doing here on this beautiful yet long suffering planet. Don't be thrown off by the quiet delivery or the religious stuff -- it's always common sense experience based and never heavy handed. You'll get as much out of it as you put into it. The people that have used this form of meditation and are associated w the blue mountain center are some of the most extraordinary humble people you will ever meet. Good luck.

A Beautiful Resource
Format: Kindle
Eknath Easwaran was a wonderful teacher who taught passage meditation, memorizing and repeating to oneself sacred writings. These writings are drawn from many of the great religious traditions. In the last few years of my aging mother's life, she and I spent many hours reading these passages together, meditating on them, and discussing them. We had our favorites and when one of us was travelling, we would agree to meditate on one or two particular ones at the same time wherever we were. At her death, I recited many of these passages to her to bring her peace. She died more than a decade ago but these passages still evoke that beautiful time in my mind and I am grateful for this beautiful resource of passages. I find that everything in this book is a source of peace when I read and meditation on it.

Printed version would have been better
Format: Kindle
The reason I gave "God Makes the Rivers Flow" 4-stars, instead of 5-stars, is a reflection on my choice to get the Kindle Edition. I love my Kindle. But, this book would be better to flip though, not to read like a novel. I think a printed version would have been a better choice. I have a lot of respect for Eknath Easwaran. He did not just tolerate diversity, he genuinely valued diversity. His works are a great way to bring traditions and peoples together, not only by showing what they have in common (although that is valuable too), but by cerebrating the ways that they differ. His works demonstrate that each tradition has noticed something about God that others did not, and they all add value to humanity's global relationship with God. "God Makes the Rivers Flow" is a great example of that.

This book is very comforting and inspiring!
Format: Paperback
Just love all of Easwaran's books. I have memorized many of these passages for meditation and enjoy reading the others. It tells of the source and author of the passages. There is a great variety to refer to for many different needs. I appreciate the translations by a great meditation teacher, Eknath Easwaran, who brings these words to people of all different back rounds and beliefs. Thank you.
