This sustainably grown eastern white pine house is a gorgeous solution for wood ducks, which are incapable of excavating a nesting cavity and must rely on existing holes or man-made habitats for shelter. A spacious, 4" wide and 3" tall front opening offers an easy entryway for ducks, and this specially designed structure includes wood chips for use as nesting material so that eggs remain insulated and will not roll around. A slanted roof as well as drainage and ventilation openings ensure that the nest cavity stays dry and fresh, keeping the house neat and comfortable. The interior is roughened and has a wire ladder affixed to the inside front panel, providing a way for ducklings to climb out of the box and swim with their mother. Mount the nest box against a post or tree with its attached, back metal hanger, and angle it slightly forward to help ducklings as they use the ladder to exit the shelter. The pine construction offers ample insulation and will give ducks a familiar, inconspicuous nesting site as it weathers and turns gray with time.
