The Swedish quartet Magic Potion are back with their long-awaited second album Endless Graffiti, the follow-up to their acclaimed debut LP Pink Gum from 2016 and the debut EP Melt from 2015. After first appearing with the Deep Web single in early 2015 the band quickly garnered attention from music publications around the world such as Noisey, The FADER, NYLON, The Line of Best Fit and SPIN with their laid-back indie rock sound. Following the release of Pink Gum the band toured around Scandinavia and Europe, mixing headline tours with support slots for the likes of Chastity Belt, before retreating to their Stockholm studio to work on their second record. Endless Graffiti retains the band's trademark sound while finding the quartet both expanding their sonic palette and upping their songwriting game, arriving at what will undoubtedly be one of 2018's strongest indie rock releases.

An essential book on U.S. race and capitalism!
Format: Paperback
One of the most important books on race and capitalism ever written. Such a nuanced study of the California penal system that includes the racist structure of the United States’ criminal justice system, but goes far beyond to analyze how capitalism and profit drive politicians, police, investors, landowners, and working class people—white and Black—to expand the prison system in an age of dropping crime rates. I teach it regularly to undergraduates and graduate students, and it drives fascinating discussions.

Gilmore does a great job of discussing and parceling out the very complex ...

If anyone has mastered the political economy and geography of prisons in California, it is Ruth Wilson Gilmore in Golden Gulag. Gilmore does a great job of discussing and parceling out the very complex and complicated relationships that exist between capitalism as a system that produces our material world alongside economic crises, and the function of prisons to absorb, manage, relocate and "hide" those very crises in the era of neoliberalism. She also skillfully reminds us over and over that it is black and brown working-class poor communities that bear the brunt of this kind of system that also expresses it's power via white supremacy. I am finding this book very useful and chock-full of interesting information for my current research.
People may find the book a difficult read because it loaded with information and technicalities they are unfamiliar with, but these are good reasons to struggle with a text and truly grasp the increasingly intricate processes that determine and guide the world we live in (and the places we may end up locked in!). As Marx said, there is no royal road to science and knowledge.
