Omega Constellation 18k Yellow Gold Pie Pan Automatic Ref. 14393 – 1959

A hallmark of late-1950s precision and sophistication, this Omega Constellation Ref. 14393 encapsulates the golden age of Swiss chronometry. Crafted entirely in 18k yellow gold, this piece showcases Omega’s technical mastery and aesthetic refinement. Its original silver “Pie Pan” dial, named for its distinctive faceted design, exudes understated elegance and remains one of the most iconic faces in watchmaking history.

Key Features & Historical Context

Model: Omega Constellation Automatic
Reference: 14393
Year: Circa 1959
Serial: 17,454,696

The Ref. 14393 was introduced during a period when Omega reigned supreme in precision watchmaking. The Constellation series represented the brand’s flagship chronometer line—each piece officially certified and symbolized by the observatory medallion on the caseback, commemorating Omega’s success in Swiss observatory trials.

This example, preserved for decades in a bank vault, tells its own story through its deeply oxidized gold case—a natural transformation lending the surface an almost rosé hue, a testament to its long dormancy and untouched originality. While the oxidation can be professionally polished away upon request, many collectors value this rare patina as an emblem of authenticity.

  • Crystal: Original Omega signed plexiglass, bearing the faint central Ω hallmark

  • Crown: Correct Omega-signed crown, original to the piece

  • Strap: Handmade Belgian leather strap, crafted with vintage styling and fitted with a gold-plated Omega buckle

Condition Overview

This example stands out for its remarkable preservation and untouched state:

  • Dial: Original silver Pie Pan dial in excellent condition, free of refinishing or restoration

  • Crystal & Crown: Both Omega signed and correct for this reference

  • Movement: Freshly serviced Cal. 561, smooth winding and precise timekeeping

The oxidation and unpolished surfaces indicate a watch that has been stored safely and seldom worn, maintaining full originality and structural integrity.

Why This Watch Matters

  • Original Silver Pie Pan Dial: Among Omega’s most beloved designs, celebrated for its dimensional beauty and timeless elegance.

  • All-Original Components: Retaining its Omega-signed plexi, signed crown, and original dial — a rare level of authenticity.

  • Natural Oxidation: Tells a story of preservation, suggesting this watch spent decades securely stored rather than worn.

  • Calibre 561 Chronometer: A proven, high-grade automatic movement that defined Omega’s dominance in chronometric precision.

  • Solid 18K Gold Case: Represents Omega’s luxury peak during the late 1950s, with impeccable craftsmanship throughout.

Final Thoughts

This 1959 Omega Constellation Ref. 14393 is a stunning example of mid-century watchmaking artistry—unpolished, authentic, and mechanically sound. The oxidized gold tones lend it a one-of-a-kind character, while the Pie Pan dial and Cal. 561 movement ensure it remains an icon of both design and horological excellence.

Whether appreciated for its untouched vintage charm or prepared for restoration to its original gleam, this Constellation stands as a tangible link to Omega’s legacy of precision, luxury, and timeless style.

The Possibilities
Format: Kindle
Despite its potential, this book ultimately failed to resonate with me. I found myself repeatedly compelled to put it down, as the focus on the empowerment aspect was overshadowed by the narrative’s preoccupation with re-triggering ourselves through the perpetuation of a harmful lie. This lie, which has tragically cost many Black men their lives and livelihoods, diverted our attention from the more profound themes of rebuilding culture, redefining ourselves, and creating a new world. Instead of exploring the possibility of a beautiful utopia, we were subjected to a process of de-centering ourselves and centering them, their likeness, and the relentless pursuit of proving our worth. While there were indeed wise words that moved me, I was left questioning the purpose of dedicating so much time to those who did not share our sentiments. Who are these individuals who required our convincing, and who are we who felt compelled to do so? I found Sydney, her family, and the inhabitants of Orange Beach to be unlikable characters. I fear that the plot was compromised when the focus shifted to inclusion.

Wow! Loved it!
Format: Paperback
Wow, I don't even know what to say about this book, but well done. I was a little bit mystified in the beginning. Our FMC and MMC definitely had me feeling a specific sort of way. A father, who was released from prison after "The Event" where all the white people in the Nation killed themselves, struggles with his identity. His daughter, Sidney, a biracial young adult who was raised by her white family, struggles with the fact that things she was taught were not necessarily true, and finds it hard to connect to her blackness. This is a tumultuous story of a beautifully written adaptation to an entirely new way of life. I didn't necessarily agree with certain ideations of the author, who in his book, claimed that there was a lost feeling after "The Event," but that's just personal experience, and I think that many black people would adapt. This book brings up so many feelings. How would I feel if "The Event" happened? Now that the "system" is dismantled? This book brings up dialogue and conversation. Amazingly well done. I'm still pondering. I know that this will be something I think about often. Wow. Very seldom do I tear up at books, but the representation of black joy in this story genuinely made my heart feel full. The love that when black people come together with nothing but amazing energy, was described so adequately in this book. I could feel it myself. And to that, I have to applaud Cebo Campbell.
