Chalk Crayons can be used for a variety of drawing techniques on bisque ware. Chalk Crayons can be used in a similar fashion to pastels, resulting in a pebbled appearance, or colours may be blended or smoothed by rubbing with the fingers or a swab of cotton on a toothpick. For fine lines, the chalk crayons can be sharpened, and for water colour effects they may be shaved, and the resulting powder dissolved in water for painting or spraying.

Application Notes

• Clear Transparent AMACO Glazes LG-10, F-10, and HF-9 are recommended as a covering glaze
• Sponge on first coat of clear glaze lightly in order not to smear design. Let dry and brush on additional coats of clear transparent AMACO glaze
• Pieces are fired to the maturing temperature of the covering glaze

Safety Warning
If left unglazed, AMACO Underglaze Chalk Crayons should not be used on surfaces which come in contact with food or drink. AMACO clear glazes LG-10, F-10, and HF-9 or any other dinnerware safe glaze are recommended to be used over the Underglaze Chalk Crayons to make them dinnerware safe.

Tableware producers must test all finished ware to establish dinnerware status, due to possible variations in firing temperature and contamination.
