They were formed in Bamako, Mali, in 2014 by three renowned Malian music stars and social change activists, Mamani Keïta, Oumou Sangaré and Mariam Doumbia, and the collective has since expanded to involve many female artists from across Africa and the diaspora. Their debut album République Amazone featured guest contributions from the likes of Angélique Kidjo and Nigerian singer-songwriter Nneka, and caught the attention of President Obama, who included one of the songs in his 20 favourite tracks of 2017. In 2020, they release their follow-up album Amazones Power, on which familiar voices appear alongside a younger generation of singers who represent the exciting new sound of modern Africa.

Update:
I wanted to add that Kitchen Mama’s customer service was genuinely great. They followed up, honored the warranty, and sent me a replacement even though I couldn’t provide photos at the time. The replacement works perfectly and the experience was way less stressful than I expected.

Original Review:
I just needed a simple electric can opener because I have crippling pain in my hands and I can't use a manual one. I didn't expect anything fancy but for the one job this thing had it still really let me down.
This thing is so slow it reminds me of my AOL days. And when it's done, it just... keeps going. When you turn it off it takes FOREVER to wind down. The first few times I tried yanking it off because I thought it was stuck.
And then it fully died in under a year.
But honestly maybe what bothers me the most of all is when I contacted customer support about the warranty replacement, I got an email back asking for photographic proof that my BATTERIES WERE IN CORRECTLY. Really?
(A photo that I could not provide because it had broken days earlier and I threw it in the trash, who hoards broken appliances?).
I really expected better from a ‘reputable’ brand.

Great opener

Had a battery operated can opener before and was always changing the batteries. Love the safety cut and this works great now that I can just charge it with my phone charger. Fits in my drawer so no counter space used

Leaves an EXTREMELY SHARP edge - cuts off entire lid from sides of can!

This can opener cut off the whole top of the tuna cans and left an insanely sharp, wobbly, very thin edge of the top of the can that nearly cut me because there was no heavy metal lip left behind to hold the structure of the top of the can! This is a very bad feature that is going to really hurt someone! I do NOT recommend this for anyone! Needs a product recall!
