Titanium dioxide is an acidic amphoteric oxide with extremely stable chemical properties. It hardly reacts with other elements and compounds at room temperature and is insoluble in water, fatty acids, other organic acids, and weak inorganic acids. It is slightly soluble in alkali and hot nitric acid. But under long-term boiling conditions, it can completely dissolve in concentrated sulfuric acid and hydrofluoric acid, producing titanium sulfate or titanium oxysulfate and fluorotitanate, respectively. It has photochemical activity, suspended in certain organic media, and can undergo continuous redox reactions under the action of light.
