Think South: How We Got Six Men and Forty Dogs Across AntarcticaWhat does it take to move forty dogs, three sleds, twenty tons of food and gear, and six men from all over the world across nearly four thousand of the coldest miles on earth? Cathy de Moll, the executive director of the 1990 International Trans Antarctica Expedition, introduces the wild cast of characters who made it happen, on the ice and off: leaders Will Steger and Jean Louis Etienne, who first met accidentally, on the way to the North Pole;

What does it take to move forty dogs, three sleds, twenty tons of food and gear, and six men from all over the world across nearly four thousand of the coldest miles on earth? Cathy de Moll, the executive director of the 1990 International Trans-Antarctica Expedition, introduces the wild cast of characters who made it happen, on the ice and off: leaders Will Steger and Jean-Louis Etienne, who first met accidentally, on the way to the North Pole; Valery Skatchkov, the Soviet bureaucrat who supplied a "hot" Russian airplane; Yasue Okimoto, who couldn't bear to leave headquarters in Minnesota while her boyfriend was on the ice; Qin Dahe, the Chinese member of the team, who didn't know how to ski; the millions of children who followed the expedition in schools around the world, learning about the fragility and ferocity of the seventh continent; and many others. These stories of near misses and magical coincidences are as suspenseful and compelling as the expedition's headlines--and they have never been told. But they also reflect the greatest lesson of the project: the international cooperation that was needed for the expedition's success is every bit as essential for the preservation of Antarctica today.

Cathy de Moll, who has been a teacher, communications executive, writer, and entrepreneur, was the executive director of the International Trans-Antarctica Expedition. Will Steger led the first confirmed dogsled expedition to the North Pole, the first and only traverse of Antarctica by dogsled, and other remarkable expeditions.

Love these toys!
Color: 4 PCS Ocean Series
My 1 year old pup loves these toys. The clam has been a big hit since it crinkles, has a squeaker "pearl" and a rope. He very proudly brings me this to play with him. Recommend!

Stitching can be weakened by continuous aggressive play.
Color: 4 PCS Ocean Series
Not as tough as touted. I will say that my dog loves the textures and sounds. Safely watching so that it does not shred when toy is ripped. Size was perfect for my 80lb dog. Pet has throughly enjoyed an enjoys the toys.

Tough toys for Chewers
Color: 4 PCS Ocean Series
My dogs love these toys, they are tough on toys so these appear to be well made. I don't expect them to stay in one piece but if they can last more than a week, they are perfect. So far, they have lasted three weeks so this is a record for toys. Cute, and funny to watch pups play with them. Squeaks once in awhile and really cool toys.

Not for aggressive chewers
Color: 1 PCS Salmon
My gsd puppy really liked it but within a few days it started fraying and the strings would get stuck in her mouth. Not for aggressive chewers and not durable.

Dog loved it!
Pattern Name: Pumpkin, Size: Large
This was a fall-themed gift for our friends' large dog. He really liked it -- especially the squeaker -- and enjoyed quietly chewing on it during our visit. By the time we left, it was still in good shape. We've given their dog other chew toys, and they are usually pretty beaten up by the time we leave, but this toy still looked and squeaked fine. No telling what it looks like now, but I can definitely say it survived at least 2 days of heavy dog chewing.
