Product Code: DIV/82PVD/AU/ND

These diver's watches are a modern remake of our 1980s model, featuring a black PVD stainless steel case. One variant of these watches was specifically remade for a U.S contractor who had secured a large sale to one of their clients. The watch boasts a robust black PVD stainless steel case and is equipped with a high-performance automatic 24-jewel self-winding movement. We have made several upgrades to the original design, such as a shatter and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal and increased water resistance rating.

Special Covert PVD Finish

The covert matt black non-reflective PVD finish used for this watch is often specified in military contracts for special forces units, anti-terrorist units, and various covert operations. Unlike painted finishes on lower-quality watches that can fade or rub off, this PVD process alters the steel's color at a molecular level, ensuring durability even during heavy usage. However, the PVD finish can be damaged if the case is badly gouged or worn down by continuous heavy abrasion against hard surfaces.

Historical and Technical Background

Inspired by the 1980 UK MOD specification for automatic diver's watches (DEF STAN 66-4 [Part 1] Issue 3), this model retains key design elements such as the unidirectional bezel and boldly marked dial with tritium paint. The original MOD specification also called for a mineral glass crystal, as documented in the MOD file shown in the final two images. While staying true to the spirit of the original, this updated version incorporates modern improvements, such as the use of non-radioactive paint and the inclusion of sapphire crystal, as detailed below.

Benefits of Sapphire Crystal

Many customers ask about the benefits of sapphire crystal over standard mineral crystal. Synthetic sapphire is extremely strong, shatter-resistant, and scratch-resistant, making it ideal for military and security personnel, police officers, and active outdoor enthusiasts. These groups account for over 70% of our customer base.

Our observations show that over 90% of incidents involving cracked watch crystals occur with mineral glass. Even hardened mineral crystals do not match the durability of sapphire. Sapphire crystals are strengthened through a heat treatment process that removes internal stresses and are then coated with two layers of anti-reflective coating. While sapphire crystals are more expensive, they offer superior longevity, resilience, and performance, justifying their use in higher-end watches.

These models represent excellent value and are competitively priced for such a high-performance automatic watch. This watch combines the historical design and functional integrity of its predecessors with modern upgrades to meet the needs of today's professionals and enthusiasts.

* While the original watches used tritium, these new versions use Luminova, with the encircled "T" retained for historical accuracy.

    Excellent 11 hole jig
    Size: 11 Holes
This jig worked excellently. It doesn't have any instructions, so I watched the video of it. I set it up the way the video showed, and I got decent results. Deducted a star since no instructions.

    Good jig
    Size: 11 Holes
The jig itself is great. The markings make it easy to be consistent; the design is well thought-out; and the build quality is good. I would recommend replacing the drill bit, though. A nice brad point will serve you better.

In the trash after a single use
    Size: 11 Holes
For context, I’m a seasoned woodworker and always evaluate tools with the price in mind. This seemed like a good deal and in fact when it arrived, it looked and felt like reasonable quality for the price. Unhappily, the first bookshelf I drilled was off from side to side by almost 3 mm which would make a really wobbly shelf situation. It took a while to figure out what was happening, but I finally realized the metal bushings that guide the drill bit are so soft that they cored out from contact with the bit even though I was cautious to not put the bit in under power but to get it in the bushing and aligned before drilling. Still, the bushings started angling immediately. So when you then use those angled bushings to set the pin for the next series, it’s off by a little bit. Then the next is off by a little more…. By the time I drilled holes up and down a 6’ high shelf, the bushings were out of square, the holes were 3 mm out of alignment, and the shelf sides were firewood. Back to the drawing board and this goes in the trash, I’m afraid.
