Description
Juta is a yarn made from three strands of raw jute combined with one strand of printed cotton. The jute gives structure, stability, and character, while the cotton softens its stiffness, creating a perfect balance between strength and ease of working. The result is a yarn that flows pleasantly through your fingers, does not resist, and is surprisingly quick to work. The surface keeps a natural, authentic look, enriched by a flash of color that makes it ideal if you love the tactile feel of jute but do not want to give up vibrant shades.

Juta is the perfect yarn if you are looking for a natural material with a strong personality, able to combine authenticity, structure, and contemporary design. Perfect for fashion accessories, textile jewelry, and home decor.

Juta works beautifully with medium-to-large crochet hooks and knitting needles, ideally around size 6. In both cases, the fabric is compact and even, naturally lighter when knitted and denser when crocheted, even with the exact same size. It is also ideal for weaving and macramé.
Techniques
When crocheting, the jute determines the clear definition of the stitches and gives stability to the work. The hook slides easily between the stitches and, thanks to the spiral-wrapped construction, the yarn stays compact and allows fast crocheting.

When knitting, the stitches move smoothly along the needle without the risk of slipping. In stockinette stitch, the stitches look regular and well connected, creating a smooth, elegant fabric. The first few rows after casting on may tend to curl, and the side edges, while well aligned, may slant slightly to the right, but you can easily straighten them with your hands as you work. In stitch patterns, stockinette can be combined with eyelet motifs and cables for highly textured, design-focused effects. Ribbing is not recommended because the yarn is not elastic enough.

With crochet, you can use not only single crochet but stitches of any height, because having several yarn overs on the hook is not a problem. You can also work filet crochet, with double crochets alternating with chain stitches, for example for curtains and cushions.

On the loom, it works very well with a rigid heddle reed sett 24:10 cm.

Awesome and Invaluable Reference
Format: Paperback
I purchased the 2nd Edition Reprint in 2023. As a former US Army Special Operations Critical Care Flight Medic (160th SOAR Nightstalker) and current Remote Critical Care Flight Paramedic, I can honestly say this handbook is leaps and bounds above some of the other handbooks I've owned. I never leave home and go to work witout it.
