The poet's mother, Johnnie Mitchell Nelson, inspired this volume when she bequeathed to Waniek from her deathbed the tales that had shaped her life. The first section of the book presents those stories transformed into graceful, humorous, and deeply touching poems. In the book's second section Waniek honors her late father, Melvin Nelson, and tells the story of his "family" the fabled group of black World War II aviators known as the Tuskegee Airmen. Using the language and perspective of her father and his comrades, Waniek explores through a few of their individual stories the hardships and achievements of the thousand black flyers trained at Tuskegee Institute. Throughout The Homeplace, the reader is involved in a series of sharply portrayed lives. By telling a continuous story in a mix of free verse and traditional forms, Waniek gives her work pace and intensity. She handles the villanelle, the sonnet, and the popular ballad with equal skill and gusto. "I just knew we were going to live some history," Johnnie Nelson said at the end of her life. Luxuriously Soft & Cooling, But Needs a Wider Opening

I really enjoy sleeping on the Beckham Hotel Collection Silk Pillowcase—it has such a silky, smooth feel that makes a noticeable difference in comfort. It feels wonderful against the skin and hair, and I especially love how it helps keep my head cool throughout the night, which leads to a restful sleep. The color choices are also wonderful and look very rich, adding a nice elegant touch to the bed. It’s also held up nicely in the wash, which is always a plus for something this delicate.
That said, I’m giving it 4 stars because of the zipper opening design. You lose about 4 inches of usable space at the opening, which makes it harder than expected to insert a pillow. Unlike other zippered pillowcases I own, the ends don’t open wide enough, so I had to squeeze my pillow in—and I actually noticed the stitching starting to pull a bit because of it. A wider opening would make a big difference.
Overall, it’s great to sleep on and feels luxurious, but for the price, I do think the design could be improved.

This product is of really nice material. It's soft and comfortable, deep pockets and fits my bed perfectly. It's a great product, however, if you're looking for something for back support, this isn't it. It isn't for me anyway - there's no firmness to this topper at all but it is very comfortable.

Excellent mattress topper. Its thick and paired with my matress provides a high end hotel feel. I have had it for a few months and it has not lost its shape and stays in place. Worth the money. You are definitely getting what you paid for.
