Inverurie is a town in Scotland where Pictish carved stones dating from the 7th Century. The Picts were a tribe living in the East and North of Scotland. Little is known of their origins, but they were called 'Picts' by the Romans because of their painted bodies. They famously resisted the Roman invasion of Scotland. They left no written records; what we know was left in artwork carved stones.

The Inverurie horse is the inspiration for the necklace. The actual design of the three horses were created by George Bain (1881-1968), the Scottish artist and teacher famous for chronicling Celtic Art.
