The excellent Extras (some to be emailed) include the tips for solving cases, written & video game reviews of SHCD, and more. Plus a game aid, to help keep track of map sites visited or not visited, 20 double-sided counters\markers will be shipped with the game!

Adventures by Gaslight (a supplement for the Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective Roleplaying Game) is still in the original factory shrinkwrap.  With time the wrap has shrunk slightly causing a crease in the upper left corner that extends midway down the left side and is accompanied with bowing to the cover along that length as well.  Some small particles are within the wrap and are in the upper right corner and at the lower edge, but are probably too slight to show up in the pictures.  Otherwise all is new and untouched.  An excellent opportunity to also pick up the other supplements (Mansion Murders and the Queens Park Affair) from the Sherlock Holmes section of our store as all were in stock when this was listed!   
       
The excellent Extras include the tips for solving cases, written and video game reviews of Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective, suggestions on how to convert the game into a Gurps-like RPG experience, and some other hopefully useful odds and ends.  Plus a game aid, to help keep track of map sites visited or not visited, 20 double-sided numbered counters\markers will be shipped with the game!  Otherwise, some to all of Extras will be emailed once the game ships!
     
Included are:

Case Book -- a 24-page book containing the rules, daily briefings for each of the five days of the case, questions, solutions, and answers.

Clue Book -- 143 numbered clues and the clue point listing.

Newspaper Archive and Post Card -- a collection of loose newspapers from both The Times and Le Figaro which provide clues and information pertaining to the cases as well as general Victoriana.

The game is afoot once again in Holme's London and Paris as this adventure takes you, as a Baker Street Irregular, across the English Channel.  Join Wiggins as you interview clients, interrogate suspects, search the newspapers for clues, and prowl the streets of London and Paris as you try to piece together the facts and reach a solution. 
 
As the events unfold, day by day, can you clear Anny Forster of the charges against her?  Where are Amelie Thacker’s porcelain birds?  What is Mycroft’s role in this affair?  These are only a few of the mysteries that will challenge your deductive reasoning as you spend a few days in May of 1889 trying to solve the Adventures by Gaslight. 
 
Like all games in the Consulting Detective series, Adventures by Gaslight is not a board game.  No dice, no luck, but a challenge to your mental ability.  The game has beeen thoroughly researched for Holmesian and Victorian accuracy to capture a feeling of that bygone era.

Taking another look at this book
Format: Paperback
I am revising my review in fairness to the author. I purchased this book on the secondary market. For my initial review I had not read the book cover to cover. This book features an anthology of philosophical excerpts and writings on different topics concerning contemporary issues in ethics. The author prefaces each topic section with an overview of the pertinent legal, historical and social developments. This is followed by contributions on the subject from different philosophical viewpoints. Some of these contributions can be rather turgid, others easily digestible. As a whole, I find the book to offer good coverage of the topics. The book addresses many ethical issues with a fair degree of contemporaneous coverage but more ethical questions of seminal import are required. For instance, perhaps there ought to be other topics introduced for future revisions that are more poignant to life in the national security state, such as the ethics of social vigilance in response to domestic government spying, the abrogation of habeas corpus and war crimes such as droning and torture. These are serious ethical conundrums in our society that deserve consideration in any philosophy course focusing on contemporary issues in ethics. Having a more comprehensive reading of this book I have significantly upgraded my appreciation of its coverage and the work that went into it and I would recommend it to professors looking to introduce ethics studies in a philosophy curriculum.
