From the artist: "Having lived with this still life I painted several years ago and feeling the need for an augmentation—the composition now includes a grey whippet with soulful eyes on a French dining chair.
I have enjoyed introducing dogs in my recent paintings. Posing (perhaps reluctantly), playing and often lounging, for me they bring a room or a garden to life. Although I consider myself a colorist who enjoys painting flowers, interiors, textiles, patterns, paintings within paintings—each affording endless possibilities—dogs have given my new paintings depth."
