In this collection of provocative and intimate essays, Johnson writes of the profound connection between Buddhism and creativity, and of the role of Eastern philosophy in the quest for a free and thoughtful life. In 1926, W. E. B. Du Bois asked African-Americans what they would most want were the color line miraculously forgotten. In Turning the Wheel, Johnson sets out to explore this question by examining his experiences both as a writer and as a practitioner of Buddhism. He looks at basic Buddhist principles and practices, demonstrating how Buddhism is both the most revolutionary and most civilized of possible human choices. He discusses fundamental Buddhist practices such as the Eightfold Path, Taming the Mind, and Sangha and illuminates their place in the American Civil Rights movement. Johnson moves from spiritual guides to spiritual nourishment: writing. In essays touching on the role of the black intellectual, Uncle Tom's Cabin, and Ralph Ellison, Johnson uses tools of Buddhist thinking to clarify difficult ideas. A DESERVED 5-STAR DOG TOY!

WOW! It’s rare that I ever give 5-stars, but here we are!
My hound dog officially turned 1 a few days ago and this was one of her presents. Being an “aggressive chewer” is an understatement, and she’s officially met her match. These rope toys are beyond tough and sturdy, but made well for chewing without being dangerous.
She has so much fun swinging them around, playing tug-o-war, and just lying down giving them her playful attention. It’s fun hearing her growl as she tries her best to show the rope who’s boss.
If you’ve got a medium-to-large sized pup that loves to play, let ‘em know they’re a good girl/boy with these extremely durable and affordable rope toys!

Dog Rope Toy

These dog rope toys are a great value, especially since several come in one pack. My dog is a black Labrador and a very aggressive chewer, so she goes through toys quickly. Each rope typically lasts her a few weeks to a month, which is impressive given how strong her bite is. She absolutely loves these and plays with them constantly.
The ropes do eventually come apart, and once the braid starts to unravel, I make sure to throw them out to prevent her from swallowing any strands. That said, these toys are very effective at keeping her busy and away from chewing household items like pillows or sofa cushions—which is a much cheaper alternative!
Overall, these are durable, affordable, and entertaining toys for strong chewers, as long as you supervise your dog during playtime.

Cane Corso Approved (Eventually Destroyed)

I bought the Forfon Tough & Strong Dog Toy for Aggressive Chewers for my Cane Corsos — and if you know Corsos, you know they don’t “chew.” They conduct demolition projects.
First impression? Solid. Thick material, strong stitching, felt durable in hand. I actually had hope. Dangerous, I know.
For about two weeks, this toy held its own. Tug sessions? Survived. Full jaw clamp tests? Passed. Backyard wrestling matches? Still standing.
Then… week three happened.
Let’s just say my dogs eventually discovered its weakness and turned it into modern art. But honestly? For aggressive chewers of this size and strength, lasting two weeks is basically a gold medal performance.
Pros:
✔ Truly tougher than most toys we’ve tried
✔ Kept my dogs entertained
✔ Withstood serious chewing pressure
Cons:
• Not indestructible (especially against Cane Corso-level jaws)
• Eventually surrendered to persistence
If you have medium to strong chewers, this will probably last a long time. If you have giant, determined jaw athletes like mine, expect a respectable lifespan — not immortality.
4 stars because nothing survives forever in this house… but this one fought bravely. 🐶💪
