I camp in the upper story shrine room of the Pazhi lhakhang, the air heavy with incense and the hall filled with prayer wheels and stacks of sacred wood-block texts.

Painted with every color, the ornately carved altar holds gilded vessels and bronze statues. Images of the Buddha, Guru Rinpoche, Shabdrung and bodhisattvas surround me, many in union with divine consorts—skywalking dakinis who protect and serve the dharma.

As the sun sets behind the snow peaks, Chimi Tshering, the Pazhi headman, comes to light the butter lamps and tells me there’s a dance in the temple tonight. I hear the sound of women singing as they approach. The solemn hall changes into a party mood when the singers come through the door talking and laughing. As they form a circle the soft lamp-light casts an ethereal beauty on their faces. A crowd of villagers follows them in and surrounds the dancers. The rough black wool of the women’s robes accents their gleaming silver, turquoise and coral jewelry. They wear bright silk blouses and small pagoda-shaped hats of woven bamboo, the Pema Chorten, lotus temple of the dharma and tantric symbol of their goddess nature.

After the dance, the villagers join us for a party in the courtyard below, where Tse Tse has a bon fire going. Phub sets out several jugs of ara and a pail of sinchang on the wide sill of the cookhouse window while Dhanman brews butter tea. Another, less formal, circle dance begins around the fire and I ask Wangchu to translate the songs.

As the men and women clap, stomp and spin around the fire they sing songs of love, nature and the changing world.

“In this garden of Lotus Flowers, you’re the only girl I love . . .”

“In Laya I met my dearest one but she turned her face and went away . . .”

“Let’s go see the beauty of Bhutan, my dear friends, then the landscape of Tibet . . .”

“Parents of dreamland never divorce or we your children will be left suffering . . .”

“The people these days act in strange ways, smoking cigarettes and drinking baijiu (Chinese spirits)

PHOTO PRINTS
Prints are on Hahnemuhle heavyweight (315 gsm) 100% archival cotton “Photo Rag Baryta” paper, using archival inks and archival spray coating. They have a 200-year life expectancy before any deterioration of the print will be observed when stored, handled, and displayed under archival conditions.

CANVAS PRINTS
What is often called “Gallery Wrap Canvas” is a fine art inkjet (Giclee) print on canvas, with printed edges to wrap around a wooden stretcher frame, like a painting. With canvas prints, your print image is still the same size, but given a "wrap effect" around the edges to account for the thickness of the stretcher. Canvas can be rolled and shipped with no effect to the print. Your local framing shop should be able to mount the canvas to stretchers at a fraction of the cost of traditional framing, making for an overall more economical way to get fine art on your wall. The canvas is printed to wrap around a 1-inch stretcher (1.5 inches on larger sizes). Specifications will be provided with your order. Feel free to contact us if you need guidance with your canvas order.

John prints, titles, dates, and signs all of his photos.

Is it Groundhogs Day?
Format: Kindle
Trapped in Class is Book 1 in the Video Game Elementary by Scott Charles. This book was written for Middle School ages, but, being a Senior Adult, I LOVED It!! This book was pure fun, action and adventure. It must have been Groundhog day because Connor Lamb has been reliving his school day over and over. He, along with the school custodian, Glitch and friends, fight Fanged Slime, Vampire Mold and other monsters. I believe that this series will be a home run with students and the young at heart. I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.

A book reluctant readers will love
Format: Kindle
Kids who are Minecraft fans will love Scott Charles’ Trapped in Class, Book 1 of the Video Game Elementary series. Connor is a fourth grader at Video Game Elementary, an online elementary school built inside a fully immersive virtual reality video game. Connor’s watching the clock, waiting for school to end so he can go to his first practice with the Swords Team when suddenly there’s a strange hiss, bleep, crack, and the world fades into white. The next thing Connor knows, it’s morning again. Like some weird, middle school version of Groundhog’s Day, the day has restarted. Stuck in a time loop, Connor must fight Fanged Slime, Vampire Mold, and other monsters to keep the school’s power crystals from being destroyed. Luckily, he has a school custodian, a friend named Glitch, a girls who’s very good at hacking the system, and a cleaning ghost with an attitude to help him. This book is easy to read and action packed. It should be a great hit with kids who’d rather hold a game controller than a book. I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.
