The following is a description of the NEW Mack Leucistic Crested Gecko aka Super Hypo aka Super Fire Crested Gecko gene as told by the founders of the genetics. I have contacted them privately and they have told me they have not seen any health issues with the mack leucistic crested geckos like we have seen with the super cappuccino crested geckos.
"The Mack Leucistic crested gecko was first discovered as a distinctly different looking hatchling. A short time later two more leucistic babies hatched, leading the department to believe this was something more than a random genetic anomaly or paradox. The juveniles were saved to be future breeders, hoping to unravel the genetics of what had been produced. While we waited for the leucistic juveniles to reach maturity, a few adults from our breeding colony were identified as potentially being parents of these leucistic juveniles, or at the very least having different phenotypic traits than a standard crested gecko. They had a lighter, less opaque scaling on the top of the head and along their sides. These would later be confirmed as what we are now calling the Mack Hypo.
Two of the Mack Leucistic geckos were eventually paired and successfully bred. Their hatchlings were 100% Mack Leucistic. When the Mack Leucistic was paired with one of the breeders showing the less opaque scaling patterns their offspring hatched as 50% Mack Leucistic and 50% having the opaque pattern. This led us to believe two things; that these were indeed part of the genetic puzzle, and that we were most likely dealing with a co-dominate gene. Finally, crested geckos that had no signs of the reduced opaqueness of the Mack Hypo were paired with the Mack Leucistic geckos. 100% of the offspring that hatched were Mack Hypo crested geckos. All further breeding pairs confirmed the same results, leading us to conclude that these were the same co-dominate gene. The Mack Hypo having a single copy of the gene, and the Mack Leucistic being the super, or two copy form."
