Blackmagic Design Spares - Camera URSA Mini - PCB Front SDI PLThe Blackmagic Design Spares Camera URSA Mini PCB Front SDI PL is the specialized interface board responsible for the EVF (Electronic Viewfinder) and monitoring output located at the front of the camera, specifically for models using the PL (Positive Lock) lens mount architecture. The Blackmagic Design Spares - Camera URSA Mini - PCB Front SDI PL is the specialized interface board responsible for the EVF (Electronic Viewfinder) and monitoring output located at the front of the camera, specifically for models using the PL (Positive Lock) lens mount architecture.

While the rear SDI board handles the main program feeds, this front board is the "operator’s board," providing the high-speed data connection for the Blackmagic URSA Viewfinder and auxiliary monitors used by camera assistants.

Functional Roles

This PCB is positioned behind the front magnesium housing and serves several critical roles:

  • 12G-SDI Monitoring Out: Provides a clean or overlaid video feed for the operator.

  • Viewfinder Power & Data: Supplies both the 12V power and the high-definition video signal to the proprietary 4-pin XLR/SDI connection used by the URSA EVF.

  • PL Mount Communication: On "PL" specific versions of this board, it manages the metadata communication (such as Cooke /i Technology) between the lens and the camera, allowing lens iris, focus, and zoom data to be recorded into the BRAW files.

  • Front Control Bus: Often acts as the bridge for the front-mounted buttons and the lens-mount release sensor.

Why the "PL" Version is Specific

There are subtle but important differences between the "EF" and "PL" front SDI boards:

  • Lens Metadata Pins: The PL version includes the circuitry required to talk to the 4-pin data connectors found inside the PL mount flange.

  • Physical Clearance: The layout is slightly adjusted to accommodate the larger, more robust physical housing of the PL mount compared to the EF version.

When to Replace the Front SDI PCB

  • Viewfinder Connection Failure: If your EVF is receiving power (the fan is spinning) but showing "No Signal," and you have ruled out a faulty cable, the SDI driver chip on this front board is likely the culprit.

  • BNC "Shear": The front SDI port is particularly vulnerable to being hit by a matte box or when the camera is being rigged. A hard hit can snap the port directly off this PCB.

  • Loss of Lens Metadata: If the camera no longer displays the "T-stop" or "Focal Length" of compatible PL lenses, the communication logic on this board may have failed.

  • SDI Grounding Surges: Like the rear board, the front SDI port can be "blown out" if an external monitor is powered via a faulty D-Tap cable while the SDI is connected.

Technical Installation Note

Replacing the Front SDI PCB is a "Level 3" repair because it requires removing the lens mount and the front housing of the camera.

  • Lens Mount Removal: You must remove the PL mount and the shim set to access this board. Keep your shims in the exact order they were removed. If you mix them up, your lenses will no longer hit infinity focus.

  • Gasket Protection: Ensure the rubber environmental seal around the front BNC port is seated correctly. This prevents moisture from the lens area from leaking into the main electronics.

  • Ribbon Cable Precision: The board connects to the Main PCB via a high-density ribbon cable. This cable is under slight tension due to its location; ensure it is fully clicked into the ZIF (Zero Insertion Force) socket before closing the camera.

  • Metadata Pin Alignment: When re-attaching the PL mount, ensure the pogo-pins for lens metadata align perfectly with the contact pads on this PCB. Misalignment can cause a short circuit that disables the camera's lens control system.

Pro Tip: If your Viewfinder is flickering, always test with a standard 12G-SDI cable first. The front-facing BNC on this board is a common failure point, but 90% of the time, the issue is actually the short "umbilical" cable of the EVF itself!

Does your Viewfinder have a total loss of signal, or are you specifically losing the metadata from your PL lenses?

Fantastic Boots!
Size: 8.5, Color: Redwood/Gum 10
Completely satisfied with these boots. True to size, well made, comfortable from the get-go; not break in needed. Waterproof- really. The Red Suede has withstood a nasty winter season & still looks great. Good traction. I like the ankle height which looks good with long, mid length pants & leggings. I love the easy slip on/off aspect..made getting ready for dog walking easy. I 100%recommend!

Definitely worth the price
Size: 6.5, Color: Black/Black
Absolutely love these boots! I originally bought them to wear in NYC in December & they did not disappoint. They were comfortable, cute, durable and worked well in the slush/snow. The traction on the bottom is also nice! They kept me warm with wool socks. I wear them almost daily now. Perfect for everyday. easy to wear with variety of outfits. Good every day shoe.

Snagged a deal
Size: 7, Color: Redwood/Gum 10
I waited and waited to get these boots! I knew I was chancing it, but they went on sale, and I snagged them! I am a size 7, and they fit nicely with socks. a little loose, barefooted, but what psycho wears boots without socks? They are comfortable and really well-made.

Cute, comfortable waterproof boots (a little snug to put on)
Size: 7, Color: Velvet Tan/Gum 2
These are really cute Chelsea-style boots and feel very comfortable once they’re on. The waterproof material is great for wet weather and the sole feels sturdy with good traction. They look stylish enough to wear casually but still feel practical for rainy days. The only downside is they can be a little difficult to put on at first because the opening is somewhat snug, but once they’re on they fit well and feel supportive. Overall they’re a great waterproof boot and I’ve enjoyed wearing them.

Surprisingly great for my wide feet and high instep!
Size: 10.5, Color: Velvet Tan/Gum 2
So thrilled I took a chance on these. Finding boots is impossible for me. I have wide feet, a super high instep, a bunion on one foot, and I wear a hard to find size (10.5). I ordered the 10.5 and 11 in these expecting I might need to size up for width (if I could even get them on). It was a struggle getting the 10.5s on the first time, and once I did they were somewhat uncomfortable on the top of my left foot. But I read that they would relax so decided to give it a go because I need waterproof boots for an upcoming trip and the 11s felt too long. After two days of light wear, they are already breaking in and I have no more discomfort. Getting them on is already easier and they are plenty wide enough and very comfortable to walk in. These are true to size. Super happy and worth a day of mild discomfort to break them in!
