LP version. Includes CD. Entirely written, played and produced by Metronomy himself, Summer 08 finds the multi-instrumentalist reflecting on his experiences around the time that Metronomy first landed a major breakthrough with Nights Out (BEC 5772370/5772393, 2008) - the guilt of missing key moments in loved ones' lives and the confused mania of finding himself a critical darling. It's a concept that's been gestating ever since, but the opportunities and challenges that resulted in the expansive, ambitious and Mercury Prize-nominated The English Riviera (BEC 5772894, 2011) and the Motown-inspired Love Letters (BEC 5161817/5161823, 2014) understandably took precedence. "I wanted to make another record with the naivety of Nights Out: ten tracks, straight up, upbeat. Write another banger, then another, and don't really think about it." Summer 08 is a mature, eclectic pop record in the vein of OutKast, David Bowie and Daft Punk. Recorded in Black Box Studios in France with mixing courtesy of Bob Clearmountain (Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie) and Neal Pogue (OutKast), it's the most daring and creative Metronomy album. The album's first single "Old Skool" is a cowbell-clattered cocaine pop belter that glimpses '00s London from the backseat of an Addison Lee. It descends into a chaotic scratch frenzy courtesy of Beastie Boys' turntablist and Mount's childhood hero Mix Master Mike. As for the lyrics: "I was living in East London in 2008 and felt like all this stuff was happening in the West end. It's nonsense really, but I felt it was this privileged end of town, all the musicians there had wealthy parents and were living in Ladbroke Grove and Notting Hill. So that song's about being totally idiotic and just jealous." "Night Owl" is even more immediate as it's disco-groove - at once laidback, then nervously on edge - captures the ambience of a downbeat soul lost in the nocturnal summer swelter of the capital. Elsewhere, there's warbling festival anthem-in-the-making "Miami Logic", which sounds like "Word Up" as performed by Devo; an early East-Coast hip-hop rough ride called "16 Beat" about a love affair between man and drum machine; and a brilliant moment of Bowie worship titled "Mick Slow". It's the album's duet with Swedish superstar Robyn, "Hang Me Out To Dry", mixed by Erol Alkan, that's the songwriter's favorite though.

Exactly what I wanted!
It is really exactly what I was looking for. I've been living with my jewelry in ziplock bags since we moved over here and everything fits perfect. I saw some reviews that claimed it was unstable but I tested it and it seems sturdy though I'm not hanging heavy pieces. It is a nice size and I love the little ring basket. It also feels pretty decent quality too. Glad I got the black one as I'm not sure where I have it that the copper/bronze would look right. I think it is elegant, practical and I wish I could post a photo with my pieces on it to show that it really holds things beautifully.

Looks great by my bed!
Even my boyfriend keeps commenting how much he likes it. It's a usable piece of art!
I will comment that the earring holes can be a little tricky since the leaves are turned all different ways. You have to be strategic with how you line up your long/dangle-y earrings with your studs so everybody fits and can be seen. A little tricky. But not a deal breaker - especially when it's so easy on the eye.
The other slight negative is that this really isn't the best necklace holder. I would have thought, "No problem!" But it's a bit awkward. Especially if you actually intend to see all your earrings. You'll end up hanging most of your necklaces from the top most branch - but they slide down into the crevice to stay. Then you've got a lot of overlapping. And trickiness to retrieve the exact necklace you want with ease.
However, this is still a fabulous earring tree. I can't say enough good things about it. Love the little basket for miscellaneous. Hair bands, lip gloss, etc.

Beautiful jewelry display
Color: Bronze-Tone
A few rough edges, but all in all well made and attractive. Holds lots of earrings and I can drape my necklaces on the tree. There's a nice bowl for bracelets and a nice tray that forms the base.

Gorgeous
Color: Bronze-Tone
It really is pretty to look at. To be honest arranging the earring on the tree is a bit of a pain, because the leaves tilt in different directions, and you have to play with it a bit to get the earrings to hang the way you would like them, but once you figure it out, they look very nice. I just adore it because it looks so pretty. I use the basket on the side for rings and watches, and the little plate in the base for a few miscellaneous pieces like necklaces or bracelets for balance and because they look nice. You'll love it.

gorgeous, and worth the purchase.
Color: Bronze
I wasn't sure about purchasing the jewelry stand at first (I had my doubts), but those doubts quickly disappeared upon the arrival/unpackaging of the jewelry stand.
SHIPPING/PACKAGING
It was nicely packaged, and not bent or damaged when I recieved it. The stand was a little wobbly (due to careless measuring of the copper balls, the fault of the manufacturer)
THE PRODUCT
The pictures are not how it is. Remember that. I thought the tree would be more three dimensional, you know- like a real tree. It wasn't, though. It was like someone took a 2D copper tree and made it stand up. It's still pretty, though, and holds a lot of jewelry.
PRICE-WISE
If you're looking at the price and it says $45 or more, don't buy it. I waited a month for the price to go down (I'm just a cheapskate) and it did. It went from $45 or so, down to $25 or so. So, unless its life or death, be patient and buy it when the price is right.
OVERALL?
In general, I was pleased with the product. It wasn't my dream jewelry stand, but it was worth my money and the wait.
