The Heart Sutra, also known as The Twenty-Five Verses on the Perfection of Wisdom, is the most popular sutra in the prajñaparamita collection and the entire Mahayana tradition. Although the sutra is primarily a dialogue between Shariputra and the great bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, their words are inspired by the blessings of the Buddha, who remains absorbed in samadhi meditation until the end of the discussion. As with all the prajñaparamita sutras, this teaching took place at Vulture's Peak near Rajagriha.
The Heart Sutra teaches that those who allow practice to carry them through and beyond even these wisdom concepts will find “wisdom beyond wisdom,” reaching a far shore of awakening where one is not caught by fixed ideas and can thus escape all suffering.
