Pentode is the first module to bring true tube saturation to the Colour format. True to the spirit of the Colour format, Pentode employs minimal, carefully selected components to achieve a coveted, vintage tone. A single NOS tube running at its true plate voltage is overdriven to produce the musical saturation that can only be described as "tube color."

Design Notes

There something so visceral and satisfying about listening to audio reproduced by a tube circuit. Pentode increases the perceived loudness of your source by saturating the transients (audio sorcery!) and adding musical 2nd and 3rd order harmonic distortion. As the ratio of RMS to peak energy grows by turning up Colour's Saturation knob, sonic density is magnified, volume is increased, and the sound becomes gigantic. That's why we like to call Pentode a Gigantifier!

MKII Improvements

Pentode MkII intensifies vibrant color in the source by adding musical second- and third-order harmonic distortion. Expanding on the design of the original Pentode Colour, the user may now select between one of two tube bias settings to fine-tune the harmonic spectra. The RICH setting presents a lively blend of both even and odd order harmonics, which enhances presence and pulls the sound forward in a mix. This setting configures the tube to deliver the original Pentode tone many have grown to love, especially on guitars and vocals. A new FAT bias setting configures the tube for mostly second-order order harmonics for a thicker, rounder tone. It evokes a more vintage vibe that some may associate with classic tube equipment using triodes.

You can further sculpt the sound and sonic texture with the new two-band Baxandall EQ, which follows the tube stage. The elegant simplicity of this circuit has attracted hi-fi and pro audio designers since its invention in 1952. Revolutionary for its time, it still remains a classic due to its effortless tone bending powers. In our implementation, the Bass and Treble curves, and their unique interaction were inspired by an obscure 1960's tube mixer. We tweaked by ear for optimum musical synergy with the rest of the circuit.

Features

  • NOS Raytheon 6418 subminiature tube
  • Two bias settings (via jumper): Rich and Fat
  • Regulated DC filament supply
  • 2-band Baxandall EQ inspired by vintage 1960's tube mixer
    1. Bass and Treble bands individually bypassable via jumper
    2. EQ gain adjustable via trim pots: +/-8 dB
    3. Recommended applications: subtle tube frequency contouring, bus sweetening, mix-ready vocal and guitar presence, big bass
  • Class A biased buffers using audiophile grade op amps
  • Wima MKP film caps
  • Compatible with DIYRE Colour

Pentode is offered fully assembled and tested by Louder Than Liftoff. It and LTL's other Colours will not be available as DIY kits.

Note on Tube Microphonics

There is a real vacuum tube in this thing. One thing that real tubes have that emulations don't is microphonics. Due to the vibration sensitive nature of the 6418 tube, some units may experience a low-level ringing for a couple seconds when the unit is bumped or the bypass/engage switch is pushed.

Lightweight, super fast and great for gaming
I’ve been using this mouse for a while now and honestly I’m really impressed. It’s super lightweight and feels very comfortable in hand, even during long gaming sessions. The response time is excellent — everything feels smooth and precise, especially in FPS games. Battery life is also really good, I don’t have to charge it often which is a big plus. The wireless connection is stable with no lag at all. The only small thing is that it might feel a bit too light if you prefer heavier mice, but for me it’s perfect. Overall, definitely worth it if you’re looking for a high-performance wireless gaming mouse.

Pro-Level Speed & Precision in One Mouse 🎮⚡
This mouse is absolutely amazing. The Logitech G PRO X2 SUPERSTRIKE is incredibly lightweight, fast, and precise. You can feel the difference immediately, especially in competitive games where every movement matters. The clicks are super responsive and customizable, which gives you better control during gameplay. The sensor is extremely accurate with no lag at all. Battery life is excellent, and the USB-C charging makes it very convenient. Overall, it feels like a premium, pro-level gaming mouse. If you’re serious about performance, this is definitely worth it.

Super lightweight and smooth for gaming
Really enjoying this mouse so far. It feels super light in the hand and moves very smoothly while gaming. The clicks are responsive, and the wireless connection has been stable with no lag issues. Battery life also seems pretty good. The shape is comfortable even during longer sessions. The only thing I would improve is adding a little more grip texture on the sides, but overall it’s an excellent gaming mouse.

Really great mouse, but terrible skates.
I absolutely loves this mouse. I usually have stuck to only using razer mice in the past. However I made the switch to this one and its honestly so great. I only really have one complaint and the rest is amazing. Pros: Battery life is honestly amazing. Its really quiet because it no longer clicks, its just haptic feedback like the ps5 controller. You can adjust when it actually clicks which is super cool just like a Hall effect keyboard, because it's the same tech. Mouse just feels great and the included grips are nice, but they do take some getting used to as they aren't what I was expecting. However I have come to like them. Cons: It's vey expensive for a mouse, there's a lot of competition and a variety of mice esp way cheaper. The stock skates are absolutely terrible, that's why I changed them jade's and now its perfect. No complaints after that. However for a mouse this expensive, I was hoping for better skates. I also don't really like the scroll wheel, to be fair I do come from razer mice so that might be why I hate it. It also takes some getting used to as the mouse is front heavy because of the switches on the mouse, but I bet you can fix that if you have a powerplay to balance it out. However I have this mouse for 2 months now and I absolutely love it and I wouldn't switch for another. The only thing I would change if you were buying this mouse today is to also order skates so you can replace them. Would be a 5/5 if it weren't for the terrible skates. TL;DR: Great mouse if purchasing, buy skates as well.

Huge Upgrade!!!
After just a week of using this mouse, I can confidently say this is the best peripheral purchase I have ever made. I initially wasn't in the market for a new mouse, until my scroll wheel broke on my razer mouse. I decided to just pull the trigger on the X2 Superstrike instead of purchasing another razer mouse. The mouse material feel is excellent, and the wheel is great as well. I've also seen some reviews disliking the skates on the X2 Superstrike, however I personally found them to be great. The haptic feedback mouse click seemed a bit gimmicky before I actually used it. Right off the bat, the mouse click feels incredibly responsive and similar to that of any high quality mouse. You get enough feedback and it doesn't feel that much different from a regular mouse click. But, you also have optionality to adjust a ton of settings, like accuation, feedback strength, etc. For gaming, with the right settings, this genuinely feels amazing, and that's before the performance upgrade. As many other reviewers have noted, it noticeably decreases latency on top of all of this. Another huge perk with this mouse I found, was that it's almost dead silent as well. No more loud clicking! My only critique with the mouse are the side buttons and the size. The side buttons are the only part of the mouse that feel "cheap". Because I use the side buttons often in competitive games, I notice it a lot more than probably most people would. I also have large hands, and this is the smallest mouse I have used. I got used to it pretty quick, but the mouse is on the smaller side. Nonetheless, if you are looking to upgrade your mouse and have the money, I would 100% recommend. This feels as impactful as going from a 60hz monitor to a 144hz+.
