This story begins in November 1941 and recounts B CompanyÕs march through French Morocco, Tunisia, Sicily, Italy, and Southern France. From there, it traces the companyÕs advance over the Vosges Mountains, through the Colmar Pocket and across Germany to Austria. For many of the B Company veterans, the battles left lasting impressions on their memories. They spoke vividly of Casablanca, Licata, Mt. Rotundo and Bloody Anzio, where they held the beachhead for four brutal months. They related with pride the operations in the Colmar Pocket, the smash through the vaunted Siegfried Line and the capture of Salzburg in May 1945, which led to the ultimate surrender of the German Third Reich. Deservedly so, the starring role in this story is played by Audie Murphy. However, the major focus of the book is on the spirit of B Company. It is the authorÕs hope to reveal the true thoughts, words, and souls of these brave men so that the reader will identify with them in a personal way. This is the story of the B Company foot soldiersÑa moving and vivid account told primarily by the characters themselves, through their own eyes and their own experiences. This book is the culmination of a three-year study on B Company. In his pursuit to arrive as near as possible to the truth, the author has thoroughly examined both secondary and primary sources, including: war memoirs, letters, journals, diaries, witness statements, and interviews with B Company veterans. HeÕs also included several illustrations from his extensive collection of maps and photographs, many of which were personally shot on location. Contents: Foreword by Dr. Keith E. Bonn; Preface; Cast of Characters; Introduction | Part I: North Africa and Sicily (1942-43): Chapter 1: The Truscott Trot; Chapter 2: Destination Messina | Part II: Italy (1943-44); Chapter 3: The Craggy Apennines; Chapter 4: Bloody Anzio; Chapter 5: The Liberation of Rome | Part III: France (1944-45): Chapter 6: Operation Anvil; Chapter 7: Through the Vosges; Chapter 8: The Colmar Pocket | Part IV: Germany (1945): Chapter 9: Smashing the Siegfried Line; Chapter 10: Victory at Last; Afterword; Acknowledgments; Bibliography; The Author; 36 photos, 2 illustrations, 32 maps. Good for my collection.
Format: Hardcover
This was another quick and entertaining read. This instalment wasn't as enjoyable as some of the other books but it was still good. I'm glad to have it in my collection.

Arrakis Brought to Life: A Stunning Visual Gateway into Dune
Format: Hardcover
‘Dune: The Graphic Novel, Book One’ is an outstanding adaptation that captures the scale, tension, and atmosphere of Frank Herbert’s original novel while making the world of Arrakis far easier to visualize. The artwork does an exceptional job translating Herbert’s dense descriptions into vivid imagery—ornithopters slicing through the desert sky, the oppressive vastness of the sands, and the stark contrast between House Atreides and House Harkonnen all feel instantly real and immersive. What really shines is how the graphic format clarifies complex scenes and political dynamics without oversimplifying them. Key moments that can be challenging to picture in the prose novel become immediately understandable, helping readers grasp both the physical environment and the emotional weight of the story. Paul’s journey, the looming threat on Arrakis, and the undercurrent of destiny are all conveyed with clarity and restraint. This is an ideal companion for longtime fans who want a richer visual grounding of the story, as well as for newcomers who may find the original novel intimidating. Faithful, beautifully illustrated, and thoughtfully paced, ‘Dune: The Graphic Novel, Book One’ enhances the experience of Herbert’s masterpiece rather than replacing it and it leaves you eager for the next volume.

A good rendering of the source material.
Format: Hardcover
I was fifteen the first time I read Frank Herbert’s classic, Dune. I was immediately swept away to his universe, and my imagination was immediately fed! Oh, what a diet of sight, sound, color, emotion, politics, warfare, and religion he fed me! The movie of this book (before there was one) unraveled in my mind, and I ingested every moment. It was such a delicious experience that I decided right then and there that I would revisit this wonderful place. Since that moment in 1981, there have been two movies, a miniseries, a graphic novel, and various other stories, as well as Frank Herbert’s son continuing the series with science Fiction author, Kevin J. Anderson. All of which is good. Please note I said good. With the exception of the continuing series by Herbert and Anderson, the images provided have not really lived up to what my imagination conjured up so long ago (and even now, since I am giving the original a re-read.), but that is not a knock against this book. Dune: The Graphic Novel is a lovely work of art. The art in it is simple, yet beautiful. Each page was deliciously drawn and colored and added to what my imagination conjured up. The pages are thick in this book, which made me feel like I was skipping ahead, but in reality, I wasn’t. A major plus for this book is that it brought back all of those feeling from when I first read Frank Herbert’s novel. I am looking forward to getting my hands on volume 2. It is on several wish lists, and my wife knows what a Dune fan I am. All in all I give this book 4.5 bookmarks out of 5!
