The Drive-By Truckers are one of the most unique recording artists and live bands in popular music today who write about people, places, and situations like no one else. 2008 modern roots-rock effort Brighter Than Creation's Dark added new elements to the mix including the singing and songwriting debut of gifted bassist Shonna Tucker, the promotion of long time sidekick John Neff to full time band member on pedal steel and guitar, and the inclusion of legendary Muscle Shoals keyboardist Spooner Oldham to the recording sessions. Patterson Hood, Mike Cooley and Tucker all contribute affecting takes on love, loss, addiction, violence, regret and desire in a gripping 19-track Southern gothic morality play. The Truckers traveled back to their roots here and managed to produce one of their most versatile sets in years along the way.
