Vitamin E is a natural antioxidant that horses obtain through consumption of fresh forage material. Horses with restricted access to fresh forage, including many “easy keepers” and equine athletes, may not consume an adequate amount of Vitamin E, and this can reduce horse health and performance.
Vitamin E protects tissues from free radicals. Normal food metabolism and exercise are the primary sources of free radical generation. Equine athletes generate elevated amounts of free radicals due to their increased feed demand and strenuous training regimens. Natural vitamin E supplementation may support performance and normal recovery times in equine athletes by optimizing the amount of free radicals present in the body.
