Introduction by Randy Wayne White with paintings by John Rice. Perhaps the grandest of the rare old tarpon books, this is the author's account of a year spent tarpon fishing at Tampico and Boca Grande in 1905. A British Army captain related to Sir Winston, Spencer-Churchill provides an acerbic, at times fussy, though very British and dryly humorous view of the sport of tarpon fishing. A thoroughly delightful book which includes a section of spectacular early photographs of tarpon.

Randy Wayne White is a former fishing guide, the author of the acclaimed Doc Ford series of mystery novels, Batfishing in the Rainforest, and is a contributing editor of Outside Magazine.

As new in slipcase Limited to 1500 copies. Green cloth-backed boards in green slipcase with paste-on cover label. Frontis and cover art by John Rice. Photo section containing 41 b&w photos of tarpon fishing. Foreword by Randy Wayne White. A reprint of the elusive 1906 first edition.

Really snug, but not uncomfortable
Size: Large, Color: Black
I don't know why these were so much tighter than all the other UA socks I've bought over the years. Not uncomfortable, just really tight when putting them on.

Leg part is TIGHT
Size: X-Large, Color: Black
I am a size 15, and the foot portion is comfortable enough, but the fit of the leg portion is so exceedingly tight that I can't wear them for long, which makes them worthless. I would return them if I didn't already toss the packaging.

Post-COVID Sock Hunt: Finally a Win
Size: Medium, Color: (001) Black / Black / White
Ever since COVID, I haven’t been able to find a pair of socks that hold up for more than a few months. Brands like UA, Adidas, and others seem to have cut corners—likely in response to inflation—by downgrading materials and labor rather than raising prices. The result? Socks that wear thin, rip easily, or lose shape fast. These, however, have been a pleasant surprise. I’ve been wearing them for a few weeks and so far, they’re holding strong. You can tell some cost-saving measures were still made—certain areas feel slightly thinner—but overall, the construction is solid. A key win: they stay on. These are ankle socks (not “no-shows”), and they hug the ankle securely. That’s a huge plus in a world where most post-COVID no-shows slide off halfway through the day. We may never get back to the pre-COVID quality standards without paying a premium, but for now, these are a reliable choice. Ratings: • No slipping: 10/10 • Price: 7/10 • Durability (so far): No pilling or loose threads — promising start.
