Six Questions Your Taco John's Franchise Financial Model Must Answer

We built this franchise unit profitability analysis using detailed research into the West-Mex QSR sector. Key assumptions, including the $1.54M Year 1 revenue target and the 9% total brand fee structure, are pre-populated and fully editable to reflect your local Broadway Avenue market conditions.

When Will Profitability Start?

The unit shows positive EBITDA of $370,000 in the first year of operations. This early profitability is driven by high-volume signature items like Potato Oles and a lean food cost starting at 14%. By Year 5, annual EBITDA is projected to reach $628,000 as the location matures and catering revenue scales.

Profit Drivers

  • Scale Game Day catering
  • Optimize late-night labor
  • Drive loyalty app usage
[dynamic_pic9]

Total Investment and Allocation

Launching this unit requires a restaurant capital expenditure budget of approximately $1.17M. This covers the $40,000 initial fee and heavy infrastructure like the $320,000 dual-lane drive-thru. You should also plan for a minimum cash buffer of $203,000 to handle the initial ramp-up phase through the first few months of trading.

Major Uses

  • Leasehold Improvements: $450,000
  • Drive-Thru Construction: $320,000
  • Kitchen Equipment: $180,000
  • Self-Service Kiosks: $55,000
[dynamic_pic10]

Investor Returns and Payback

When evaluating franchise unit investment returns, the model shows an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 2.28% and a Return on Equity (ROE) of 1.33. While the unit generates strong annual cash flow, the significant upfront capital for drive-thru and leaseholds means the full payback of the initial investment occurs after Year 5.

Key Metrics

  • IRR: 2.28%
  • Payback: After Year 5
  • Year 5 EBITDA: $628,000
[dynamic_pic11]

Reaching the Break-Even Point

Building a financial plan for a drive-thru restaurant shows a break-even date of April 2026, roughly 4 months after the initial launch activities begin. This quick move to covering monthly operating costs depends on hitting the $1.54M Year 1 revenue target through efficient throughput and high average tickets during peak student hours.

Break-Even Levers

  • Increase average ticket
  • Maximize drive-thru speed
  • Control food waste
[dynamic_pic12]

Cash Flow and Runway

The lowest cash point is expected in September 2026, with a minimum balance of $203,000. You will defintely need to monitor liquidity closely during the first six months as you staff up for late-night leads and shift supervisors. Estimating labor costs for late-night restaurant operations is vital here to ensure you don't overspend before the revenue fully ramps.

Cash Protection

  • Phase equipment installs
  • Manage opening inventory
  • Monitor weekly labor
[dynamic_pic13]

Scenario Impact Analysis

Analyzing restaurant profit margins for fast food units reveals that a 10% drop in revenue significantly delays the break-even point and tightens the cash buffer. Conversely, the High scenario assumes better local marketing execution and higher 'Game Day' bundle sales, which could push Year 1 EBITDA well above the $370,000 baseline. This franchise investment feasibility study template allows you to toggle these variables instantly.

High Case Odds

  • Execute local BSU ads
  • Upsell Potato Oles
  • Refine late-night menu

Our XL dogs love this! Highly recommend them! Highly recommend. Not for aggressive chewers but our big dogs don't destroy their toys. They cherish them. Great for play and cuddling. Not to loud either. Very cute.

When they said strong...
...they weren't kidding. Our pup would chew through everything she could get her sharks teeth into. Like my arms. Nothing lasted as long as a week or maybe two. But she has had Dino for months now. She loves him. He is the go to toy for when she wants to play tug. The material used to make this toy is every bit as strong as the seller claims. I will definitely buy from them again. And I will not wait for this one to rip. I may be waiting a long time. If your pup likes to tear stuff apart, feel safe in buying this toy, UPDATE: 2/9/2023 Dino finally succumbed to the torture. His back ripped open and despite trying to repair him with ordinary thread he couldn't withstand the pressure, His stuffing was removed and spread all over the living room. Completely emptied he is still a good toy. Strong enough to withstand the forceful play of tug-o-war. Only thing I would suggest is to use something stronger when closing his back. The rest of him is great. I will be replacing him soon.

Not so tough
Size: Mini, Color: Gator (Pink)
I bought this because I dog sit. The dog chews up every. Single. Toy. So I bought it since it was cheap and it can be in the “chunk” (the dog’s name) toy box. It is not durable at all. He tore it up just as fast as a cheaply made toy. Chunk LOVES it! He would not stop playing with it. He loves the squeakers, it is a perfect size for him to throw it up in the air and chase it, and he loved ripping the legs off. It is good for my husband and I because there is little to no fluff. However, it is the perfect size to drop behind the couch and not be able to get. So once he drops it behind the couch, he won’t get it until morning. Now for my dog’s rating. My dog loves this toy too. He is much more gentle with toys (he has $5 Walmart toys we bought him back in 2020 in perfect condition that he plays with them every day). Before Chunk came over for the weekend, my dog Ted played with this. Ted is a larger small dog and chunk is a smaller small dog. And it is still the perfect size for both dogs.

Tough
Size: Large, Color: Dinos Frills (Pink)
Tough dog toy that's held up through multiple washes! My dogs love the squeaker. They are not destructive chewers so I can't really say how it would hold up with that kind of dog though.
