Patrick says, ‘Authenticity is the hallmark of my sculptures and with my sights set on  producing a realistic silver replica (Great Eastern Wild Turkey), I travelled to upstate New York to study the bird that has the sight of an eagle, the hearing of a bat and the sense of danger of an African leopard.

The only way that I could lure a tom, or gobbler, turkey out of the woods and close enough to study was to have a professional turkey caller mimic a flirtatious hen. However, the most exciting part of my turkey research was attending the National Turkey Convention of North America held in Atlanta, Georgia’.

The wild turkey is the most complex and detailed pieces Patrick has ever made. He says, ‘The turkey is the most impressive animal to sculpt not because of its size, but because of its many feathered shields, like some ancient Samurai warrior in full battledress. Although I have seen many animal and bird courtship displays, the wild turkey of North America is one of the most complex and exciting’.
