Richard was sickly as a child with whooping cough and many didn't think he would live past infancy. But Richard says, "I fooled them." Becoming a living legend in the Jazz and R&B world was not his goal in life. He just wanted to play his bass, take care of his family, love God, and love people. It is because of those things - and his humility and God's hand on him - that helped him become who he is today.
