Through my eighteen years as a practicing artist I have been focused primarily on how intervention with the physical object of the printed photograph affects a finished visual construction. I have extensively explored cutting and reconstructing images on various printed media such as transparency film, hand processed photographic prints, Xeroxed reproductions and high quality Chromogenic prints. By reworking the surface of my own photographs, I investigate the tension between the visual information of a printed document and the physical object of the photographic print. Recently I have been exploring circular composition as a visual device. This has given me a consistent framework in which I can break down the nuances of my subject matter.

I am predominantly motivated to use these techniques to investigate the physical world around me and to articulate the beauty, fragility and interlaced systems of the wilderness. I was raised in a forested acreage in southern Ontario, and continue to live and work on this 200-acre piece of property. My early and prolonged exposure to wild things has been a lifelong inspiration in my drive to create and explore my world visually. I document and rework my documents as a meditation on the intricacies and majesty of the wild landscape. My photo-based practice allows me to study and interpret the profound complexities of the ecosystem by interacting with the physicality of representation.
