AudioQuest Rocket 33 Speaker Wire at Vinyl Sound Toronto Canada

The Rocket 33 is a full-range speaker cable from AudioQuest (Irvine, California, USA), available at Vinyl Sound in Toronto, Canada. This 10-foot pair comes pre-terminated with AudioQuest SureGrip 300 BFA/Banana plug connectors using AudioQuest's Cold-Weld connection system. Built around a Double Star-Quad geometry using six solid PSC and LGC conductors of three different cross-sections, Foamed-Polyethylene insulation on all positive conductors, and a Carbon-Based Noise- and Crosstalk-Dissipation System on the negative conductors, the Rocket 33 represents AudioQuest's most sophisticated technology at a mid-series price point within the Rocket range. When the two star-quad halves are separated at the speaker end, the Rocket 33 converts into a true Double-BiWire cable, making it one of the most versatile speaker cables in its category. Audiodrom's reviewer praised its "very natural, smooth and effortless" presentation and called it "a very good performer at this price level." The cable is described as an "award-winning speaker cable" by AudioQuest, made to order at their Irvine, California facility.

Double Star-Quad Geometry: Why Conductor Geometry Defines a Speaker Cable's Character

Most speaker cables simply run two conductors in parallel, or at best as a twisted pair. AudioQuest's Rocket 33 uses Star-Quad geometry, in which four conductors are arranged in a specific cross-pattern rather than a simple side-by-side or twisted-pair configuration. In a Star-Quad array, the two positive conductors sit diagonally opposite each other, as do the two negative conductors, creating a geometry in which the magnetic fields generated by the positive and negative signal currents are far more effectively cancelled at a distance than in any parallel or simple twisted configuration. This cancellation reduces the cable's effective inductance and virtually eliminates the electromagnetic interaction between the positive and negative signal halves that causes a confused, smeared sound in conventional cables. The Rocket 33 uses a Double Star-Quad design, meaning it contains two complete and magnetically autonomous Star-Quad assemblies within a single cable jacket. Each assembly contains three solid conductors of different cross-sections, with a precisely chosen combination of PSC and LGC materials, providing what AudioQuest calls a Dual-Triple conductor arrangement. The magnetic autonomy between the two star-quad halves is the property that allows the Rocket 33 to function as a true Double-BiWire cable when the halves are separated at the speaker end.

Solid PSC and LGC Conductors: Three Sizes, Two Materials, Zero Strand Interaction

All six conductors in the Rocket 33 are solid rather than stranded. In a stranded conductor, the individual wires move against each other under the mechanical stress of signal current, and their electromagnetic fields interact with each other in ways that add subtle but audible distortion to the audio signal. Solid conductors eliminate this mechanism entirely. AudioQuest further refines performance by using a carefully chosen combination of two copper formulations in three different conductor gauges. Long-Grain Copper (LGC) is a high-purity copper produced so that individual crystal grains extend across far greater lengths than standard copper, dramatically reducing the number of grain-boundary impedance discontinuities the signal encounters. Perfect-Surface Copper (PSC) extends this further by applying AudioQuest's proprietary surface treatment technology at every stage of drawing and fabrication, producing a conductor surface that is astonishingly smooth at the microscopic level and further minimizes the grain-boundary distortion that causes harshness and coloration. Using three different conductor cross-sections addresses an additional phenomenon: each conductor diameter has its own characteristic skin-effect distortion profile, and by combining three different sizes, AudioQuest spreads the distortion profile across a much wider frequency range, reducing its audibility at any individual frequency and producing a more neutral overall sonic character.

Carbon-Based Noise- and Crosstalk-Dissipation System

Conventional speaker cables address radio-frequency interference only through external shielding, which can add capacitance and interact with the amplifier's output stage. AudioQuest takes a different approach in the Rocket 33. The cable's negative conductors are coated with a partially conductive Carbon-Loaded Polyethylene material. This carbon layer serves three simultaneous functions. It dissipates RF interference from outside the cable before it can reach the conductor surface. It damps the electromagnetic interaction between the positive and negative conductors within each Star-Quad assembly, reducing crosstalk between the two signal halves. And it prevents RF garbage from being fed back into the amplifier's output stage through the cable's return conductors, which is a particularly important benefit since modern amplifiers are sensitive to RF energy on their output terminals. An external Carbon-Based Noise-Dissipation System layer provides a final outer shield against external RF interference. The combined result is a reduction in the "hash" and high-frequency grunge that limits transparency and three-dimensional soundstage presentation.

Foamed-Polyethylene Insulation and SureGrip 300 Cold-Weld Connectors

All positive conductors in the Rocket 33 are insulated with Foamed-Polyethylene, a material chosen for its very high air content and polyethylene's inherently low-loss, low-distortion electrical properties. Standard solid insulation materials absorb a portion of the signal energy from the adjacent conductor and release it back at a slightly later time, introducing phase distortion into the audio signal. Foamed-PE, with its high proportion of air pockets, minimizes this absorption mechanism. The Rocket 33 ships pre-terminated with AudioQuest's SureGrip 300 BFA-standard banana plugs, attached using AudioQuest's Cold-Weld system. Rather than applying heat, which can alter the metallurgy of the conductor and connector interface, Cold-Welding applies a controlled mechanical pressure that compresses the connector and conductor into effectively a single continuous metallic structure. A copper-bearing paste applied at the interface acts as both an oxidation retardant and a contact enhancer. Both ends of the cable are marked with directional arrows and labeled AMP END and SPEAKER END, as all AudioQuest speaker cables are direction-controlled based on the grain structure of the conductors.

Key Features

  • Double Star-Quad (Dual-Triple) Geometry: Two magnetically autonomous Star-Quad assemblies within a single cable jacket, each with three conductors of different gauges. Vastly superior electromagnetic field cancellation compared to parallel or twisted-pair configurations, reducing inductance and eliminating conductor interaction.
  • Solid PSC and LGC Conductors, Three Cross-Sections: Six solid conductors using two high-purity copper formulations (Perfect-Surface Copper and Long-Grain Copper) in three different cross-section sizes, eliminating strand-interaction distortion and spreading skin-effect distortion across a wider, less audible frequency range.
  • Carbon-Based Noise- and Crosstalk-Dissipation System: Partially conductive Carbon-Loaded Polyethylene on all negative conductors dissipates RF interference, damps crosstalk between positive and negative halves, and prevents RF energy from being fed back into the amplifier. External carbon layer provides additional outer shielding.
  • Foamed-Polyethylene Insulation (Positive Conductors): High-air-content Foamed-PE minimizes insulation-induced energy absorption and phase distortion on all positive conductors.
  • Direction-Controlled Conductors: All conductors oriented for optimal noise drainage, with AMP END and SPEAKER END clearly labeled on connectors.
  • SureGrip 300 BFA/Banana Plug Connectors, Cold-Weld System: Pre-terminated with SureGrip 300 banana plugs attached by AudioQuest's Cold-Weld compression system using copper-bearing paste for a permanently low-resistance, oxide-resistant connection.
  • Single-BiWire and Double-BiWire Capable: The two Star-Quad halves can be separated at the speaker end for a true Double-BiWire connection, providing magnetically independent treble and bass signal paths to speakers with two pairs of binding posts.
  • Available Configurations: Full-Range, Single-BiWire, and Double-BiWire terminations available through Vinyl Sound; custom lengths available as an authorized AudioQuest dealer.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the AudioQuest Rocket 33 speaker cable?

The AudioQuest Rocket 33 is a Double Star-Quad speaker cable using six solid Perfect-Surface Copper (PSC) and Long-Grain Copper (LGC) conductors of three different cross-sections, Foamed-Polyethylene insulation on the positive conductors, and a Carbon-Based Noise- and Crosstalk-Dissipation System on the negative conductors. This 10-foot pair ships pre-terminated with SureGrip 300 BFA/Banana plugs using AudioQuest's Cold-Weld connection system. When the two Star-Quad halves are separated at the speaker end, the Rocket 33 becomes a true Double-BiWire cable with magnetically independent treble and bass paths. It is available at Vinyl Sound in Toronto, Canada.

How does the AudioQuest Rocket 33 compare to the Rocket 22, Rocket 44, or the Kimber Kable 8TC?

Within AudioQuest's Rocket Series, the Rocket 33 sits above the Rocket 22 and below the Rocket 44 and Rocket 88. The Rocket 22 uses a simpler geometry and fewer conductors, while the Rocket 44 and 88 upgrade the conductor materials and geometry further. Compared to the Kimber Kable 8TC, which uses a braided 8-conductor arrangement of copper conductors, the Rocket 33's primary architectural difference is its Double Star-Quad geometry with magnetically autonomous halves and AudioQuest's Carbon-Based Noise-Dissipation System on the negative conductors, which Kimber's braid-based approach does not employ. Both cables are capable of bi-wire operation. Audiodrom's reviewer, who tested 18 cables in a low-to-mid-tier speaker cable comparison, called the Rocket 33 "a very natural, smooth and effortless cable" and "a very good performer at this price level."

What is Star-Quad geometry and why is it superior to parallel or twisted-pair designs?

Star-Quad geometry arranges four conductors in an X-shaped cross-pattern, with the two positive conductors placed diagonally opposite each other and the two negative conductors also placed diagonally opposite each other. This arrangement means the electromagnetic fields generated by current flowing through the positive conductors are symmetrically positioned relative to the negative conductors, producing far more effective mutual cancellation of the cable's external magnetic field than any parallel or simple twisted-pair configuration can achieve. The practical result is lower effective inductance and less electromagnetic interference radiated by the cable, along with a large reduction in the cable's susceptibility to picking up external interference. The Rocket 33's Double Star-Quad design uses two complete, magnetically autonomous Star-Quad assemblies, allowing the cable to provide separate, non-interacting signal paths for treble and bass when used in a BiWire configuration.

Can the AudioQuest Rocket 33 be used for bi-wiring?

Yes, and it is one of the Rocket 33's most important capabilities. The cable contains two complete Star-Quad assemblies whose magnetic fields are designed to be autonomous from each other. When the two halves are separated at the speaker end and connected to a speaker's separate treble and bass binding post pairs, the Rocket 33 functions as a true Double-BiWire cable, providing genuinely independent signal paths for the high-frequency and low-frequency sections of the speaker crossover. This is meaningfully different from a cable that is merely physically split at the speaker end with the conductors still electrically paralleled from the amplifier side. HiFiReport's review confirmed that the structural separation of treble and bass conductor groups within the Rocket 33 is a deliberate design element that provides each frequency band with its own dedicated conductor geometry and materials.

What is the Cold-Weld connection system and how does it differ from soldering?

Cold-Welding is AudioQuest's connector attachment method that uses controlled mechanical compression rather than heat to join the conductor and connector. Soldering introduces lead or tin alloys into the signal path and applies heat that can alter the microstructure and surface properties of the conductor and connector metals. Cold-Welding compresses the connector body around the conductor with enough force that the two metals deform together at their interface, creating a mechanically inseparable bond with conductor-to-conductor contact rather than an intermediate alloy joint. AudioQuest applies a copper-bearing paste at the interface that acts simultaneously as an oxidation retardant, preventing long-term corrosion of the contact area, and as a contact enhancer that fills microscopic surface voids. The result is a connection that is described as "practically perfect" in terms of signal continuity and long-term stability.

Where can I buy the AudioQuest Rocket 33 in Toronto or Canada?

The AudioQuest Rocket 33 is available in Toronto, Canada at Vinyl Sound, an authorized AudioQuest dealer. You can purchase this 10-foot BFA/Banana-terminated pair in store or through the Vinyl Sound online store at vinylsound.ca, with shipping available across Canada. Custom lengths, spade terminations, and BiWire configurations are also available through Vinyl Sound as an authorized dealer, with cables made to order at AudioQuest's facility in Irvine, California.

Is the AudioQuest Rocket 33 direction-controlled, and does installation direction matter?

Yes. Like all AudioQuest speaker cables, the Rocket 33 is direction-controlled, and the connectors are clearly labeled AMP END and SPEAKER END to ensure correct installation. The grain structure of all drawn metal conductors is non-symmetrical, meaning RF impedance varies directionally along the length of the conductor. AudioQuest determines the optimal signal-flow direction for each batch of metal used and orients the conductors accordingly so that RF noise is drained away from the amplifier's output stage rather than toward it. Installing the Rocket 33 with the AMP END at the amplifier and the SPEAKER END at the speaker binding posts ensures the cable functions as AudioQuest designed.

Don’t let the bad reviews deter you from saving your skin
Style: Restorative Protective Cream-3.3 Fl Oz, Style: Restorative Protective Cream-3.3 Fl Oz
I avoided purchasing this product for a while due to the bad reviews. However, it is still highly recommended by several dermatologist for skin barrier repair. Upon doing my own research, the product can separate if it is stored in cold temperatures (41 degrees or less). This can be fixed people!! It literally says it on the bottle/box and there’s even a video that Amazon posted saying this can happen. It does not affect the product. It’s just the thermal spring water and some oil separating but it can be reincorporated. So I took the risk and ordered this. I’m a first time purchaser. It was already at my door when I was leaving for the gym at 5:30am so I let the package sit in my car for about 1.5 hours (temp was about 70s). I put the tube in a glass of hot sink water for 10 minutes when I got home. I rolled the tube in my hands for a few minutes to mix everything together. Guess what. It came out like a CREAM. No liquid shot out at me. If you can read, do a little research, and can follow instructions, you can get a working product. I have sensitive skin. It’s been a struggle healing my skin barrier but it was getting better. I decided to do something dumb and try dermaplaning. My cheeks have been very red and irritated since. I did avoid active products for a few days after dermaplaning but it was still irritated. Just with the first time use of this product, it was nearly instant relief of some of the redness. It’s fragrance less which is great. It is currently on sale so I think the value is good for what it is right now. I only used two pea-sized amount for my whole face so I think it will last awhile. This can significantly help your skin barrier! Do your own research and read the instructions!

Samples great, purchased product not
Style: Restorative Protective Cream-1.3 Fl Oz
My dermatologist recommended this cream after a laser procedure, and gave me some samples to take home. I found the thick, smooth cream calming and protective for my irritated skin. The zinc oxide leaves a whitish cast at first, which does tend to fade after it sinks in, but it could be problem if you have darker skin. Not an issue for me since I’m pale. Because I liked the samples, I ordered two full-size tubes. Both arrived with the product inside completely separated. The texture was nothing like the samples. I opened the first tube and clear, watery liquid spilled everywhere. I quickly recapped it, shook and squeezed the tube as much as possible to try to re-emulsify the product, and it remained stubbornly separated, with chunky white paste suspended in thin liquid. I’ve thoroughly shaken the second tube and continue to hear the sloshing of thin liquid. So apparently once the cream has separated, it will not re-mix. I don’t know what caused the unacceptable condition of the product—manufacturing variation, storage conditions prior to shipping, or conditions during shipment. Whatever it was, I would not buy this product in this way again. The samples were a five star product. The full size product I received was zero stars.

Helped calm my damaged skin barrier, but expect stinging on very raw skin
Style: Restorative Protective Cream-1.3 Fl Oz
I bought this because I severely damaged my skin barrier and needed something gentle that would help my skin calm down and heal. My skin was extremely sensitive, raw, irritated, tight, and honestly uncomfortable even with water touching it. This did help, but I do want to mention that if your skin is VERY damaged or raw, there can be some stinging at first. I experienced that myself during the first few applications. The stinging didn’t last long for me, but I think it’s important to mention because people with damaged barriers are usually desperate for relief and can panic when products sting. What ended up helping me most was using this as part of a simple barrier repair routine instead of using it alone. What I personally did: * Wet my face first with either water or Avène Thermal Spring Water so my skin was damp but not soaking wet * Applied the Avène Cicalfate onto the damp skin * At night, I sealed everything in with CeraVe Healing Ointment (Aquaphor would probably work too) I repeated this every night before bed and sometimes during the day if I was staying home. If I was leaving the house during the day, I would do the same steps but use sunscreen instead of sealing with ointment. I honestly think sunscreen is extremely important when your skin barrier is damaged and trying to heal because irritated skin feels even more sensitive when exposed to sunlight. I used this day and night, very easy to use, and didn’t experience breakouts from it. The texture is thick but comforting once applied, especially when your skin feels dry and stripped. Overall, I would buy this again. I don’t think it’s some overnight miracle product, but it genuinely helped my skin calm down and recover when my barrier was damaged. I personally didn’t notice any strong fragrance, which I appreciated since my skin was already extremely irritated. I also like how versatile this product is. Even though I originally bought it for barrier damage, I can see why people use it for irritation from retinol, over-exfoliating, dry patches, or skin that just feels compromised in general.

Holy Grail of Moisturizers
Style: Restorative Protective Cream-3.3 Fl Oz
I bought this after hearing a dermatologist on Instagram rave about this cream and now I see why. As someone who suffers from pretty severe eczema this is my go to holy grail for flair ups. Perfect for sensitive skin and can be used daily. It is very thick so provides a thick layer of moisture on your skin. I will say I have bought 2 sizes in this and the smaller size (1.3fl oz) did separate and had a liquid part that would come out. I have bought numerous tubes of the larger size (3.3fl oz) and never had an issue with separation with the larger size. I’m learning as I get older that more expensive does not mean better quality skincare. This is one that is not only affordable, but will also give you noticeable results. I have everyone in my whole family using this product!
