COURSE OVERVIEW:

Welcome to the course on Managing Challenging Behaviours in Mental Health Support (Adults and Children). This program is designed to provide you with the knowledge and practical strategies to effectively manage challenging behaviours in individuals with mental health conditions. By focusing on positive behaviour support, this course aims to improve the quality of life for individuals and their carers.

We begin with an introduction to challenging behaviours, defining what they are and exploring the various types. You will learn about the significant impact these behaviours can have on individuals and their carers and understand the importance of implementing positive behaviour support to manage these behaviours effectively.

Understanding the connection between mental health and behaviour is crucial. This section covers how mental health conditions influence behaviour, the developmental factors in children and adults, and the complexities of co-occurring disorders that can exacerbate challenging behaviours.

Assessment of challenging behaviours is the foundation for developing effective interventions. You will learn about Functional Behavioural Assessment (FBA), various behavioural data collection methods, and techniques for identifying triggers and antecedents that lead to challenging behaviours.

The role of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is central to this course. You will explore the principles of PBS, its benefits in managing behaviours, and review case studies that highlight the effectiveness of PBS in various settings.

Developing behaviour support plans is a critical skill. This module covers the essential components of a behaviour support plan, setting measurable goals and objectives, and the processes for monitoring and reviewing these plans to ensure they remain effective.

Proactive strategies for behaviour management focus on preventing challenging behaviours before they occur. You will learn about environmental modifications, teaching alternative skills, and reinforcement techniques to encourage positive behaviours.

Reactive strategies are necessary when challenging behaviours arise. This section covers de-escalation techniques, crisis intervention strategies, and post-incident debriefing to manage and mitigate the impact of challenging behaviours.

Effective communication is key to managing challenging behaviours. You will develop skills in verbal and non-verbal communication, active listening, and enhancing communication for individuals with disabilities to improve interactions and outcomes.

Behavioural interventions are practical tools for managing behaviours. This module explores positive reinforcement, token economy systems, and behavioural contracts as methods to promote desired behaviours and reduce challenging ones.

Ethical considerations in behaviour management are paramount. You will learn about informed consent, respecting individual rights and dignity, and balancing safety and autonomy in behaviour management practices.

Working with families and carers is essential for a holistic approach to behaviour management. This section covers family-centred approaches, training and supporting carers, and building collaborative relationships to enhance the support network for individuals.

Cultural sensitivity in behaviour management is crucial for effective and respectful interventions. You will explore understanding cultural differences, adapting interventions to cultural contexts, and promoting inclusivity in your practices.

Understanding Australian legal and policy frameworks ensures compliance and ethical practice. This module covers relevant legislation and regulations, policies and guidelines for behaviour management, and the importance of thorough reporting and documentation.

Finally, evaluation and continuous improvement are necessary for effective behaviour management. You will learn the purpose of monitoring and evaluation, steps in the evaluation process, and tools and techniques for ongoing assessment to enhance the effectiveness of behaviour management strategies.

By the end of this course, you will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to manage challenging behaviours in individuals with mental health conditions effectively, ensuring a supportive and positive environment for both individuals and their carers.

Only toothpaste in my household
Flavor Name: 1. Sensitive Mint, Size: 5.25 Ounce (Pack of 1)
Love this toothpaste, no fluoride, great taste, fresh breath. Great value for the price as the tube is quite large. Only downfall if that it doesn't foam well which you will find with any toothpaste not full of nasty chemicals. Only thing my family uses.

Give it a few weeks! It works!
Flavor Name: 1. Sensitive Mint, Size: 4 Ounce (Pack of 1)
I've been brushing with this toothpaste twice a day for about 3 weeks. I can see an improved whitening. My hairdresser, new one I hadn't met before, told me I have perfect teeth. Actually they're not that straight but the color of my teeth makes up for the misalignment of some of them. Flavor of toothpaste is good. Didn't cause any sensitivity for me.

This toothpaste does not foam but my mouth has never felt cleaner or fresher! The taste is minty fresh and I have noticed a difference in the whiteness of my teeth since I started using it! Very effective and I highly recommend!

Baking soda never works out well
Flavor Name: 1. Sensitive Mint, Size: 4 Ounce (Pack of 1)
I don't know why I decided to chance it but it didn't take long for my teeth to start aching. I realized baking soda might be the cause of my toothache issues when I switched between a few and realized the baking soda ones were accompanied by aching. I think I went with this because it claims to be for sensitivity and I thought the nhap would help whatever the baking soda affected but not the case. If you have tooth ache, consider it might actually be the toothpaste and don't just go looking for "sensitive" labels. This might work in combination with other toothpaste. I.e. not multiple times a day but once a day and a different one for other brushing. I've noticed not being as able to tell when it's been a while since I brushed. This was the main change so it might be effective at cleaning. The tube is metal and hard to press but the paste consistency is less firm than others so it works out. It didn't take much to get the paste out. It gives a light foam. The taste is not sweet. It's tolerable but borders on bad.
