- Condition: in excellent, clean, original condition with some minor paint loss acquired over more than a century of use and devotional prayer.
- 19th century Mexican folk retablo representing the "Nino de Atocha." El Nino de Atocha, one of the most popular subjects in Mexican retablo art, is the Patron Saint for freeing those imprisoned, and is also known for performing miracles for travelers and those in danger. This popular image originated in Spain after the Moors invaded the town of Atocha. According to popular legend, there was a prison filled with Christians who lacked basic necessities including food and water. Only missionary children were allowed to visit and one day after family members prayed a child carrying a basket, a staff and a gourd of water, came dressed as a pilgrim. After he served everyone in the prison both his basket and gourd were still full and it was then believed that the miraculous visitation was none other than the Infant Jesus.
- Devotion to Holy Infant of Atocha originally began as a Marian devotion with a medieval statue of the Madonna and Child in Toledo, Spain. According to Juan Javier Pescador, it originally reflected devotions to three different depictions of the Virgin Mary: Our Lady of Atocha, Our Lady of Antigua, and Our Lady of Pregnancies that later coalesced into Our Lady of Atocha.
- The image of the Divine Child was detachable, and devout families would often borrow the image of the infant when a woman was about to give birth to her child.
- In the 13th century, Spain was under Muslim rule. The town of Atocha, now part of Madrid's Arganzuela district, was lost to the Moors, and many Christians there were taken prisoners as spoils of war. The Christian prisoners were not fed by the jailers, but by family members who brought them food. According to pious legend, the Caliph ordered that only children under the age of 12 were permitted to bring food. Conditions became increasingly difficult for those men without small children. The women of Atocha prayed before the statue of Our Lady of Atocha at a nearby parish, a title of the Blessed Virgin Mary, to ask her son Jesus for help.
- Reports soon began among the people of Atocha that an unknown child under the age of twelve and dressed in pilgrim's clothing, had begun to bring food to childless prisoners at night. The women of the town returned to Our Lady of Atocha to thank the Virgin for her intercession, and noticed that the shoes worn by the Infant Jesus were tattered and dusty. They replaced the shoes of the Infant Jesus, but these became worn again. The people of Atocha took this as a sign that it was the Infant Jesus who went out every night to help those in need.
- The Holy Child of Atocha is depicted dressed as a boy pilgrim dressed in a brown cloak with white lace collar over a blue robe. He wears a brimmed hat with a plume and carries a basket full of bread in one hand and a pilgrim's staff in the other. The pilgrim's staff is often depicted with a water gourd fastened to it. On the cloak he wears a Shell of Saint James, symbol of the pilgrims to the Shrine of Santiago de Compostela in northwestern Spain. The Child is said to roam the hills and valleys, particularly at night, bringing aid and comfort to the needy, and thereby wearing out his shoes. He is usually shown seated.
- The Moorish conflict extended well beyond the town of Atocha. During dire points in their journey, travelers reported that a young boy, dressed as a pilgrim, would come to them bringing food and other necessities. The boy would often travel with them until they were out of danger and then guide them to the safest roads to reach their destination. Pious legends continued to be developed and the miraculous Child later became considered to be the Child Jesus and was given the title the Holy Child of Atocha.
- Note from Brian: This Masterpiece is the original Retablo featured in Saints and Sinners. I purchased this gem from James Caswell, beloved friend, scholar, Master Dealer and owner of Historia Antiques. I remember clearly when I first saw the piece in the pages Saints and Sinners, I thought it was one of the most beautifully detailed and finely executed Retablos I had ever seen. The colors, the lifelike compassion radiating from the Holy Child, the dignity. It seemed to me to be the pinnacle of what I would consider an amazing Retablo. When I saw it offered again on Caz's website years later, I couldn't believe it! I was in Thailand at the time, and thought surely I wouldn't have a chance at acquiring the piece. But I got a hold of Caz in time (long distance call, something like 5:AM CA time for Caz), and he graciously made the piece mine. I remember on the flight back to NYC, I felt giddy! Somehow I wanted to keep a low profile, not be noticeable, but I couldn't help smiling the whole flight saying to myself, "I just bought the Saints and Sinner's Nino of Atocha" over and over again. When I finally arrived and got to unpack/ unveil this Masterwork, Caz and I were on the phone for over an hour, discussing various Nino de Atocha paintings that were known and published. Caz admitted that this was always his favorite example, and by far for him "the most satisfying, the most complete" as a total work of art.

Great keyboard at the right price
I bought this to replace my old Logi Ergo K860. I like the idea of curved keyboard. But the distance between my left and right hands on Ergo K860 was bothering me ever since I bought it 5 years ago. I would say I never got used to it. The Ergo started to act up one day with one key F not working properly. I tried to fix it and considered getting another one, then I saw this keyboard with a much better price. So I took the chance and went with this cheaper option. I like this one better than Ergo for the following reason:
1. The layout is more comfortable. Yes, it took me a while to get used to it like I would with any keyboard. I don't have to twist my wrists to reach any keys.
2. Keys are not too loud. It's not going to silent, but better than Ergo.
3. Battery life is great. I make a living by typing my keyboard. I only charged this keyboard once so far (4 months).
4. The price is great for what I got.

Good keyboard, some auxiliary keys are moved from where I was used to
I've only been using this for a day, so I can't speak about battery life. It is rechargeable, and it has an on-off switch for saving the battery when I'm not using it, so I don't know what more I could ask for on that front. Likes: the main keyboard is definitely ergonomic and feels comfortable; the key action is not silent, which I actually like, and the scissor action switches underneath the keys feels good to me; the keyboard is about 1.5" narrower than my previous keyboard (Logitech Ergo K860) because the number pad is right next to the regular part of the keyboard, and the usual keys in between have been rearranged. Most of these changes will just require the user to get used to the new positions. However, the Home, End, Pgup and Pgdn keys are now Function keys, piggybacking on the arrow keys, and that may cause more trouble for people who use those a lot (I don't, so I don't mind it). Dislikes: experience has shown me that dust and crud get into the space between the wrist pad and the rest of the keyboard. On my old keyboard, I could remove the wrist pad using some tiny screws in the back, and take the pad out for thorough cleaning. With this keyboard I won't be able to do that, so time will tell how aggravating that will be. Maybe I'll have to take it down to my shop and blow out the crud with the air compressor (joking, probably not a good idea). Overall, not quite 5 stars, but close. If it lasts better than the Logitech, I may come back and put in that last star.
Update: It has lasted about 20 months, and I'm going to have to replace it. I may buy another one, 20 months is pretty good for the amount of use I have gotten out of it, but I'm going to search to see if anything new and better is around. Symptoms seem to indicate that the rechargeable battery is not taking a charge any more. The keyboard works find when it is plugged in, but when I unplug it, after a few minutes it goes wacky.

Arrived Battery DOA - But then something unexpected happened.
This was a one star review because the unit arrived with a batter that would not hold charge for more than a minute. I am not changing the stars, because if you are like me, you read the one star reviews cause so many companies pay for fake 4 and 5 star reviews.
When I first posted this review I also initiated a return and just planned to move on to another brand. I was surprised when I got a personal email from the Arctek Service Team offering to send me a replacement free of charge. With nothing to lose I figured why not?
The new unit arrived and I put a full charge on it and put it to work. I chose this keyboard because it is the closest in layout to the original Microsoft ergo split keyboard, no longer in production, that I have used for years and truly enjoy. I am pleased to report that the battery is working fine and the keyboard performs flawlessly. No skipped strokes or stuck keys, no glitches with the proprietary wireless interface to the laptop (when I am using it on the desk with a large screen).
My hat is off to the Arctek service team and management. A company that cares enough about its reputation and customers to go to so much effort to take care of a customer with such a small dollar item sale is a company you can expect to rely on. From now on when I want electronic gear on Amazon, I am going to use the word Arctek in my search.

Incredible
1 year update: I have been using this keyboard daily at work for almost one year and my 5 star review stands. Upon receiving the keyboard I charged it before use, and since then I have not charged it at all and it is still somehow at 75% battery!! I turn it off at night when I’m done.
One of the function keys broke off in a way where I can’t reattach it, but I reached out to customer support and they sent me a free replacement keyboard. Great customer service and warranty!
Original review: I love this keyboard. I am a grant writer so I write and edit all day. It has really leveled up my typing experience and has made work much more comfortable. It puts my hands in a natural position so my wrists no longer bend at odd angles. I adapted to the split key design in minutes. The keys have an excellent feel and sound to them and the wrist pad feels like a soft cloud. I’ve had no connectivity issues and so far the battery has been stellar. It also has rubber grippers on the bottom so it stays firmly in place on my desk and doesn’t move around like my old keyboard did. I went for this one because I didn’t want to spend $100+ on a keyboard and I’m really impressed with the quality.

OK, but .....
It is an ok keyboard with an annoying flaw. As other reviewers have observed, the placement of the Number Lock key makes it easy to trip that key by error. it is distracting to have to break your train of thought to fix the problem.
