Cayenne peppers are grown in moist, well-drained soil with a pH of 6.0 to 7.0 and full sun. They require about 75 to 100 days to mature. The peppers can be harvested by hand or with a machine.

Cayenne pepper is also used in medicine as a topical cream or ointment to relieve pain from arthritis, shingles, and muscle aches.
