About the Workshop:

This virtual workshop at the Center for Book Arts is led by instructor Shirin Salehi. Designed as a follow-up to the critical development workshops offered in 2024, this new four-session program builds on the theoretical foundations explored earlier, with a focus on practical application. The workshop aims to deepen participants' understanding of these concepts and foster the development of new personal or collaborative projects.

Participants will have the opportunity to create a new book art project or explore interdisciplinary art within the framework of ‘bookness.’  Whether working on a new proposal or continuing an ongoing project, participants should be committed to dedicating time throughout the month-long workshop. They are also expected to present their work in progress virtually during the final class session.

Prerequisite: This workshop is primarily intended for returning students, though new students with experience in conceptualizing artist’s books are welcome to apply.

Required Materials:

Please come to the first online session with either a conceptual outline or a starting idea for your project, or with materials from a work in progress.

About the Instructor:

Shirin Salehi (she/her) is an Iranian visual artist, educator, writer, and translator based in Madrid. Working across printmaking, drawing, sculpture, and artist’s books, she explores the poetic subtleties of language—especially illegible writing, erasure, and hiddenness. Trained in printmaking, her practice reflects a deep engagement with time, imprint, and the material traces of language.

She has held residencies at Est-Nor-Est in Quebec (2025), the Academy of Spain in Rome (2021), the Academy of France in Madrid (2014), and Fondazione Il Bisonte in Florence (2016). In 2022, she was nominated for the Queen Sonja Print Award in Norway. Since 2020, she has also worked as an interpreter and mediator for Persian-speaking asylum seekers and refugees.

Nice chew toy
Color: Dogwood Mushroom, Size: Medium, Color: Dogwood Mushroom, Size: Medium
Super durable and puppy loves it. It was a bit hard for her at first but now at 5 months it’s one of her favorite things to gnaw on! It is heavy for the size but seems to be great quality and has given many hours of chew time with minimal wear.

Puppy loves these sticks!
Color: Dogwood & Calming, Size: Medium
Dogs love these sticks! Must smell and taste like real wood because it keeps my puppy from bringing real sticks in the house from outside. She is a heavy chewer and these sticks keep her occupied. We are on our 2nd set.

Great value for the price, highly recommend
Color: Dogwood & Calming, Size: Medium
Our dog loves these and chews them down to nothing. They are a great value for the money and the use your dog gets out of them. The size is just right for our doberdor.

Our dog loves it but it wasn’t durable enough to last
Color: Dogwood Jack, Size: Large, Color: Dogwood Jack, Size: Large
Our lab took to it as soon as we gave it to her. Perfect size for our 80 lb yellow lab. However, now that it’s in about 10 days, she’s able to break off chunks from this bone that are dime size or larger, and we have to throw it away
