The golden trevally can cover vast distances in the ocean by riding along the great fishes, including the whale sharks. They may prefer the whale shark for feeding time, as the colossal gentle marine creature attracts baitfish, which is prey for the golden trevally.
The blue waters accentuate the patterns of the great fish. Another reminder of the vastness of the ocean and some of its creatures. The beautiful white lines on this shark seems to be a camouflaged to light refractions in water. The size of the trevally contrasts with the giant, and seems insignificant. A true testament to their symbiotic relationship.
From Anouska Freedman: SAY G'DAY!! ???? a very happy whaleshark and her pilot fish friend swimming in the pristine waters off the Ningaloo reef. I think I spend almost as much time with whalesharks as I do with people at the moment hahaha! I feel very lucky to live in a part of the world where this shark is protected and we try to swim with them in a non invasive manner. It's so important to look after our beautiful sharks, they are gentle giants and bring so much joy to people all over the world.
