COURSE OVERVIEW:

Welcome to the Mastering Communication in Organisations course. This program will equip you with the skills and knowledge to understand, apply, and refine communication practices that support clarity, collaboration, productivity, and trust across all organisational levels. You will explore the importance of efficient organisational communication, the communication process, and how messages are encoded, decoded, and interpreted. This course also examines body language, tone, and word choice—key elements that shape how messages are received—and introduces the nine main types of verbal behaviour that influence communication outcomes.

This course begins by examining how to choose the appropriate channel of communication and why effective listening is critical to workplace success. You will explore the implications of not listening, the reasons individuals fail to listen, and the verbal and non-verbal behaviours that indicate disengagement. This section also explains how to listen openly, how to send convincing messages, and how communication operates as a two-way process shaped by context, clarity, and mutual understanding.

You will then explore the factors influencing the communication process, including the impact of people’s different states of mind. This section outlines the behaviours associated with each state of mind and explains how these behaviours shape the communication characteristics of different interaction styles. You will also examine attitudes toward people with disabilities, strategies for challenging negative assumptions, and how awareness, empathy, and flexibility contribute to respectful and inclusive communication.

Another learning area focuses on trust and effectiveness in communication, exploring why trust is essential and how trustworthiness and competence influence message credibility. You will examine strategies for becoming a more effective communicator, improving the quality of conversations, and strengthening communication at work. This includes learning how to give feedback that motivates, how feedback relates to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, and how to influence others through constructive communication.

A further component explores the importance of networking and the communication insights embedded in leadership models. You will examine the Tannenbaum and Schmidt leadership model, McGregor’s leadership model, and the Hersey and Blanchard situational leadership theory. This section highlights the relationship between communication skills and negotiation, introducing the eight behaviours required for successful negotiation and demonstrating how leadership communication shapes group performance and interpersonal outcomes.

The course also examines effective presentation and meeting communication, including how to deliver a presentation or briefing, how to make meetings work, and the different types of meetings used within organisations. You will explore how to identify meeting participants, the reasons for holding meetings, and the importance of preparing thoroughly. This section also covers how to lead meetings, manage discussions effectively, and encourage innovation through structured communication practices.

A further learning component introduces tools for creative and collaborative thinking. You will explore the importance of group thinking, the six thinking hats method, and the mind mapping method, as well as the barriers that can prevent creative thinking from emerging. This section highlights how structured thinking techniques can improve team problem-solving and participation, and why clear written communication—including the accurate writing of meeting minutes—is essential to ensure decisions are documented and understood.

By the end of this course, you will be able to analyse communication processes, listen effectively, adapt messages to different audiences, apply leadership communication skills, negotiate successfully, deliver presentations, lead meetings, encourage innovative thinking, and strengthen workplace communication practices that support organisational success.

Bouncy, not hard, and good value.
Style: Fetch Balls (Pack of 10), Size: 2.5 inch
Great balls for the ball launcher and not rockhard like some of the solid rubber balls. These have great bounce, and because of the two holes, they make a fun whistling noise as they fly through the air. My dogs love them and they are a good value. By the way, if you throw them too hard, they will go through chain-link and no climb fence because they squish a bit!

Excellent dog balls — safe design and very durable
Style: Fetch Balls (Pack of 3), Size: 2.5 inch
These fetch balls from Amazon Basics are fantastic, and my dog absolutely loves them. One of the biggest reasons I prefer these over other brands is the hole that runs through the center of the ball. This is a very important safety feature: if a dog were to accidentally get the ball stuck in the back of the throat, the hole allows air to pass through. That small detail could literally make a life-saving difference. Aside from the safety benefit, they bounce well, are easy to clean, and hold up to a lot of playtime. They’re firm but not rock-hard, and my dog goes crazy for them. Great value, great quality, and a thoughtful design. Highly recommended for dog owners who want a safer alternative to standard solid rubber balls.

Great ball for heavy chewers
Style: Assorted Balls (Pack of 3), Size: 2.5 inch
Great toy for my Doberman. She chews through tennis balls in about 15 minutes but these are very durable. She likes to chase them but also just chew on them.

My dog loves glowing fetch at night!
Style: Glow Balls (Pack of 3), Size: 2.5 inch
Fantastic. Sturdy. My dog loves them Glow in the dark is great for fetch at night. I keep a flashlight with me because the glow doesn't last really long. But they charge very quickly and are really bright.
