COURSE OVERVIEW:

Welcome to The Role of Selling in Marketing course. This program has been designed to equip you with a clear understanding of how selling supports, strengthens, and integrates with broader marketing strategy across both consumer and business markets. You will examine the nature of modern selling, the qualities of successful salespeople, the connection between sales and marketing functions, and how market segmentation, targeting, and the marketing mix shape effective selling performance. The course also explores sales management responsibilities, product life-cycle considerations, pricing inputs, distribution decisions, and the creation of differential advantage in competitive markets.

This course begins by exploring the nature and role of selling. This section outlines what selling is, the characteristics of modern selling, the success factors that define professional salespeople, the many different types of selling found across industries, and the distinctions between B2C markets—including fast-moving consumer goods, semi-durable goods, and durable goods—and B2B markets and their sub-markets.

The next learning area introduces selling as a professional career. This section highlights the key qualities recognised as essential for salespeople, the evolving image of selling, the misconceptions that create barriers to entering the profession, the elements of the sales task that may act as demotivators, and the reasons why selling is ethical, valuable, and essential to the success of quality products that do not sell themselves.

The next learning area explains the nature and role of sales management. This section clarifies how sales management functions within an organisation, the duties and responsibilities of sales managers, and how sales management aligns with the marketing concept—including production, sales, and marketing orientations and how organisations implement the marketing concept in practice.

The next learning area focuses on segmentation and the marketing mix as foundations for selling effectiveness. This section explains market segmentation and targeting, the benefits of segmentation, the most frequently used bases for segmentation, and how the marketing mix—product, price, place, and promotion—guides decisions that influence the selling process.

The next learning area examines product and market dynamics that influence selling strategy. This section explains the product life-cycle and its implications, the processes of product adoption and diffusion, the inputs that contribute to pricing decisions, and the decision areas involved in distribution strategy. It also outlines the differences between the marketing mix in B2C versus B2B markets.

The next learning area explores the strategic relationship between sales and marketing. This section explains how the two functions interact, how target market choices guide both selling and marketing activities, and how the creation of differential advantage becomes the starting point and sustaining force of a successful marketing and selling strategy.

By the end of this course you will be able to understand the professional role of selling within marketing, recognise the attributes of successful salespeople and sales managers, apply segmentation and marketing mix principles to guide selling decisions, interpret product life-cycle influences, and align sales activity with strategic marketing objectives to create genuine value for customers and organisations alike.

Excellent lighting
Color: Warm
Highly recommended! I actually reordered one because I forgot one night to bring it in, then a severe storm came through and stole the umbrella, turning it upside down in the yard. Water got into the battery bays, so they rusted. I'm sure other connections inside rusted too, because after cleaning the contacts, I could not get the light to work again. But the reason I purchased a new one is because it looks so classy. Its warm light can be adjusted to three levels just by pressing the On button through the levels. Very simple. The ambiance it provides is lovely! Next to the On button is the clip that flips open to swing open the light. Place the light around the umbrella pole and snap shut the clip. The light is secured, but you can also slide it up or down to whatever height you prefer. It still remains stable and in place until you move it again. Until I left my first one out in the rain, the light worked beautifully and reliably, as does its replacement. Battery life is excellent unless you forget to turn off the light. I can't tell you exactly how long they last because inevitably after a few weeks, I do forget to turn it off. This is an inexpensive and beautiful upgrade to your patio experience. Excellent value, excellent quality, excellent lighting.

Great light, great price!
Color: White, Color: White
I'm a Carnivore who does all of my meat and fish cooking outdoors, adjacent to my kitchen. For the winter, I've put up a half-umbrella to keep the rain off of my cooktop. This light rounds out the kitchen by providing GREAT light for my alfresco kitchen. It works like a charm and is easy on the batteries.. I LOVE it!

Good price, easy to install
Color: Warm
First, the price is right. It is easy to install. My biggest problem was within a few hours, one of the bulbs already burned out. We are still using it and the rest work great.

Great Invention
Color: White, Color: White
So simple to install and we absolutely love having this light on our patio table. You can adjust this light anywhere on the pole and direct the lights to shine up or down depending on your preference. It also has three settings. It is well made and runs on 4 AA batteries. This is a great invention and several people that have seen this light have ordered one for their own patio tables.

Bright, easy to use
Color: White
Love that you have different light settings. Perfect lighting. Fit easy and perfect. Only downfall is you need 4 batteries. Not had it long enough to know how long it will last. Would buy again.
