A Refined Diatonic C-Flute for Waldorf Music Study

The Choroi Octa Diatonic C-Flute with Choroi Fingering is a handcrafted maple wooden flute with 8+1 holes, designed for Waldorf music study, expressive diatonic playing, and growing musicians ages 8 and up. Made in Sweden from solid maple and finished with child-safe linseed oil, it offers a bright yet gentle Choroi tone well suited to classroom music, ensemble work, and home practice.

This flute is commonly introduced in Waldorf settings as the next step after the pentatonic flute. Choroi fingering supports balanced tone and intonation within diatonic playing, making this C-flute a faithful companion for many years of musical growth.

Choosing the Right Fingering — Please Read Before Ordering

This flute is available in multiple fingering systems. Each supports a different musical approach:

  • Choroi Fingering (8+1) — Choroi’s refined diatonic fingering, developed to improve tone balance and intonation in Waldorf music education
  • German Fingering (7+1) — a simplified fingering system often chosen for its familiar feel in early diatonic playing
  • Baroque Fingering — the standard system for  broader classical repertoire with chromatic playing possible through cross fingering techniques

👉 Please double-check the fingering system before purchasing.
If you are unsure which model is appropriate, we recommend confirming with your music instructor before ordering.

Important Return Note

Because wooden wind instruments are not sealed and cannot be hygienically sanitized without damaging the wood, all wooden wind instruments are final sale once sold. This policy helps preserve the integrity of each instrument and supports the health and safety of our customers.

Choroi Fingering (8+1) — What Makes It Different

Choroi Fingering is distinct from German and Baroque systems and was developed specifically to support balanced tone, comfortable hand position, and stable intonation in diatonic flute work.

  • Smooth, intuitive finger transitions
  • Comfortable spacing for smaller hands
  • Slightly expanded range from c'' to c'''
  • Extra ninth hole supporting growing dexterity and tonal stability

This fingering system gently prepares students for more advanced wind instruments while remaining approachable and musical.

No Toneblock — Natural Breath and Clear Tone

This flute features a no-toneblock design, allowing breath to flow freely through the instrument.

  • Encourages relaxed, natural respiration
  • Responds easily to gentle airflow
  • Produces a clear, rounded tone ideal for group playing

The maple wood resonates warmly and deepens in character with proper care.

Available Tunings and Models

  • Right-handed: 440 Hz or 432 Hz
  • Left-handed: 440 Hz

For families choosing between tunings, we offer a short guide on tone and resonance:

Care basics

  • Oil 1–2 times per month with Choroi flute oil or organic jojoba oil
  • Swab moisture after each use
  • Store in the cotton bag
  • Keep away from heat and extreme dryness

For Waldorf Students and Home Learners

In Waldorf schools, diatonic flute work is typically introduced in Grade 3 (ages 8–9) once students are ready to move beyond pentatonic flute playing. Choroi Fingering is often chosen in these settings because it refines German fingering with improved tone balance and intonation, supporting steady progress and joyful music-making.

A Timeless Classic That Nourishes the Mind!
Format: Board book
Where to even begin with Eric Carle's "The Very Hungry Caterpillar"? This book has been a cornerstone of childhood for countless kids—and with good reason! First and foremost, the visual elements are stunning. Eric Carle’s unique collage technique brings the story to life in a way that instantly captures the attention of both young and older readers. His choice of bold, vibrant colors is just like eye-candy for the young ones. The tale itself is simple yet profound. A caterpillar eats its way through various foods, both healthy and not-so-healthy, growing bigger and ultimately transforming into a butterfly. On one level, it’s a delightful story about change and growth; on another, it subtly teaches children about the days of the week, counting, and nutrition. I appreciate how the book incorporates little "holes" in the pages to indicate where the caterpillar has munched through, adding a tactile element to the reading experience. My 5-year-old loves poking her fingers through the holes, making the story not just a visual but also a sensory delight! It’s also worth noting that the story is quick and to-the-point, making it perfect for bedtime or for little ones with shorter attention spans. But despite its brevity, it offers a wealth of topics to explore and discuss, from biology and metamorphosis to making healthier food choices. "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" isn't just a book; it's an interactive, educational experience that both children and adults can enjoy together. It is a tale that transcends time and remains as relevant today as it was when it was first published. If you haven't introduced your children to this story yet, you're missing out on a classic that’s as nourishing for the mind as it is a delight for the senses.
