COURSE OVERVIEW:

Welcome to the Supporting Older People with Hearing Loss in Aged Care course. Hearing loss is a prevalent condition among older adults, affecting their ability to communicate, connect socially, and maintain emotional well-being.

This course aims to equip you with the knowledge and strategies to effectively support older individuals experiencing hearing loss. We begin by defining the types of hearing loss, understanding its prevalence in older populations, and exploring its significant impact on daily living, emotional health, and overall quality of life.

The relationship between hearing and ageing is essential to understanding the challenges faced by older adults. This course will explore common causes of age-related hearing loss, such as presbycusis, and its effects on cognitive and emotional health, dispelling myths and misconceptions about hearing loss in ageing.

Recognising hearing loss early is vital for timely intervention. You will learn to identify signs and symptoms, conduct basic hearing screenings, and refer clients to audiologists and hearing specialists for accurate diagnosis and tailored solutions.

Legal and ethical considerations play a crucial role in supporting hearing impaired clients. This course will cover the rights of older people with hearing loss, your duty of care as a provider, and compliance with Australian disability discrimination laws to ensure respectful, inclusive care practices.

Effective communication is a cornerstone of hearing loss support. This course will provide practical strategies for using verbal and non-verbal communication techniques, incorporating visual cues, and overcoming barriers in group settings to foster meaningful interactions with clients.

Hearing aids and assistive technologies can greatly enhance the lives of hearing impaired individuals. You will gain insights into different types of hearing aids, introduce clients to assistive listening devices, and guide them in using these technologies effectively to improve their hearing experience.

Creating a hearing-friendly environment is key to supporting clients with hearing loss. You will learn to reduce background noise, enhance acoustics, and organise spaces to facilitate communication and comfort for hearing impaired clients.

Hearing loss often has a psychological and emotional impact on individuals. This course will teach you how to address the emotional challenges associated with hearing loss, support clients experiencing anxiety or depression, and connect them with counselling and peer support services.

Social inclusion is critical to combating isolation for individuals with hearing loss. You will explore strategies for encouraging participation in social activities, connecting clients to hearing loss support organisations, and fostering social connections to improve quality of life.

Supporting daily activities requires clear communication and adaptive strategies. This course will provide guidance on assisting clients with personal hygiene, grooming, dressing, eating, and toileting, while promoting independence in activities of daily living (ADLs).

Managing dual sensory loss presents unique challenges. This course will explore strategies for supporting clients with combined hearing and vision loss, enhancing communication, and accessing specialist services to meet their complex needs effectively.

Family and caregiver engagement is integral to holistic care. This course will guide you in educating families about hearing loss, collaborating with them to provide effective support, and addressing their concerns and expectations to create a cohesive care approach.

Monitoring and evaluating care outcomes ensures continuous improvement. You will learn how to set measurable goals, review care plans and hearing devices regularly, and adjust strategies based on client progress and feedback to maintain high standards of care.

Addressing challenges in hearing loss care requires creativity and adaptability. This course will explore methods for managing resistance to hearing aids, overcoming communication barriers in complex situations, and balancing individual client needs with resource limitations.

The course concludes with case studies and best practices, offering insights into lessons learned from supporting hearing impaired clients, analysing complex scenarios, and implementing evidence-based strategies to improve care outcomes.

By the end of this course, you will be well-equipped to support older people with hearing loss, fostering their independence, enhancing their communication abilities, and ensuring their overall well-being in aged care settings.

Each section is complemented with examples to illustrate the concepts and techniques discussed.

So sweet
Format: Kindle
It’s so unexpectedly sweet that it sneaks up on you. Each character is so unique and charming. I love the openness and honesty among their pack. It really blows me away how wonderful this omegaverse trope plays out. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Needs editing
Format: Kindle
Cute storyline and promising characters, but the lack of editing is painful to read. I would love to read an edited version.

A good read
Format: Kindle
A good read, just fluffy cuteness, no antagonism. I like all the characters. It could have used another round of editing however, glanfds being one error that cracked me up, and my personal pet peeve was that the author kept using the word fill instead of feel, which I promise you are not interchangeable haha, but it's definitely better than the majority of books I read on here mistake-wise.

amazing
Format: Kindle
Knot the Bride was a fantastic read! The characters were all amazing and well-developed. It was easy to like them all. Sophia, Luca, Nick, and Gavin were all perfect for each other. It was such a charming story that had me hooked the entire time. I did wish there were POVs from Luca, Nick, and Gavin but it was still an amazing book without it. I am excited to read the next book in the Willowside Omegaverse series! This is definitely a must-read for fans of omegaverse romance!. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

3 Star Read,
Format: Kindle
This book wasn't bad, but wasn't my cup of tea. It's highly disappointing because the storyline is so original. There is no real conflict or resolution, so the entire thing feels flat. As a lover of omegaverse books, I know there is a ton of variety out there, and ov is really up to the author. But this one is weird. Omegas have multiple scent glands all over their bodies and go into week long heats every month. Alphas have knots in the middle of their shaft instead of the base, and the knot doesn't always swell, no explanation of when or why. It doesn't engage at all when the mouth is in play. I also didn't enjoy the author's writing style. Each paragraph is only 1 or 2 sentences long, and the entire book reads very stacato. The conversations are stiff and unnatural feeling. Everything is very repetitive, both in word choice and in thought. The same thing is repeated 3 or 4 times over a single page, multiple times over. I ended up doing so much skimming. The first 50% of the book is all slow burn, and the last 50% is almost straight mediocre spice. This wouldn't have been all bad if the grammar and spelling errors didn't start at the exact same time. Tongue is repeatedly misspelled in the middle of the spice.
