Installation Guide

Professional installation is recommended. The following steps provide a general overview for replacing the water pump assembly:

  1. Safety First: Disconnect the battery and ensure the engine is securely mounted.
  2. Drain Gear Lube: Place a drain pan under the lower unit and remove the drain and vent plugs to drain the gearcase lube.
  3. Remove Lower Unit: Unbolt the lower unit from the engine's midsection. You may need to disconnect the speedometer tube and shift linkage.
  4. Access the Water Pump: With the lower unit removed, locate the water pump housing on top of the gearcase.
  5. Disassemble Old Pump: Remove the bolts securing the water pump housing. Slide the housing off the driveshaft to expose the impeller.
  6. Remove Old Components: Remove the old impeller, woodruff key, gaskets, and wear plates. Note their orientation.
  7. Clean Surfaces: Thoroughly clean all mating surfaces, removing any old gasket material or corrosion.
  8. Install New Components: Install the new gaskets, wear plate, and insert cartridge from the kit.
  9. Install New Impeller: Slide the new woodruff key into its slot on the driveshaft. Slide the new impeller on, turning the driveshaft clockwise to bend the vanes correctly.
  10. Install New Housing: Apply a light coat of marine grease to the inside of the new housing and install it over the impeller. Secure it with the new bolts and washers.
  11. Reassemble: Re-install the lower unit, ensuring the driveshaft, water tube, and shift shaft are aligned. Torque all bolts to factory specs.
  12. Finalize: Refill the gearcase with fresh lube, reconnect the battery, and test the engine on a water supply, checking for a strong telltale stream.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

How do I confirm this fits my engine?
First, check the "Compatible Engine Models" table to see if your Yamaha model and year are listed. Second, compare your existing part number to the list in our "Part Number Cross-Reference" table to ensure it is a direct replacement.

What are the signs of a failing water pump impeller?
Common signs include the engine overheating, especially at idle, or a weak/non-existent water stream from the telltale outlet. During inspection, a worn impeller may appear brittle, cracked, or have fins that are permanently bent.

How often should I replace the water pump impeller?
As a critical maintenance item, the impeller should be inspected annually. We recommend replacing it every 1-2 years or every 100-200 hours of operation, whichever comes first, to prevent engine damage from overheating.

OEM vs. Aftermarket?
This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.

How fast do you ship and how much does it cost?
We offer fast global shipping—typically 5–15 days worldwide—and standard shipping is free. Expedited options are available at checkout depending on your location.

What is your warranty and return policy?
This product includes a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If something goes wrong, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard return window (unused & in original condition); please see our policy page or reach out for instructions.

This will work but prep is key!
I have an older RV that the gelcoat has dulled and is oxidized, but otherwise in good shape. I have buffed and polished in the past only for it to last a short time. I was looking up different products to try and this one has such good reviews, I thought I would give it a try. I bought the kit with the Poliglow and the Poliprep, with the scrubber and the microfiber glove. I started with the poliprep and it did a great job of gettting the streaks and black marks off. You spend a lot of time scrubbing to your likeness because anything that is still on the gelcoat when you apply the poliglow, it will be locked in there. The Poliglow is like a clearcoat that goes over the gelcoat. You have to build up layers and here are some of the tips and tricks I figured out that really helped my finished RV look great. First, make sure the applicator stays damp, this keeps the poliglow more uniform across the glove. Also, stick it in a zip lock bag when not using, you do not want it to dry out while you are using it. I found out that applying this in direct sunlight in warm temps, is the best method. This allows the poliglow to dry really fast. The first 3 or 4 layers will look streaky and dull but this is ok and as you build up the layers, the shine will come back. I found if you do this when its cooler, the layers do not dry as quick and you will get some permanent streaking or running. I had to remove a section I did in the evening because I noticed this. When in direct sunlight, this gave me the best results with no streaking or running. It dries fast and you can keep working. Like it says, do not do big sections at a time, keep it to small what you can reach sections and build those up and move on. As far as how much to buy? I have a 40 ft toy hauler and I got to kits and I had just enough to finish the whole thing minus the nose cap. I have Durabak on the nose cap, so I dont need to worry about that. I ended up buying one more bottle of the poliglow to have for my maintenance coats. Overall, I am pleased with how my 10 year old RV looks and other than some of the decals show age, it looks new again. If I were to buy a new RV, I would put this on right away and preserve the whole RV including the decals. Its not too expensive and its a lot of work, especially the prep, but it does end up with great results.

Excellent shine
Excellent line of products. Looking at the picture, you can see what the camper looked like before the Poli Glow. To the left of the window is the after Poli Glow. It takes some elbow grease (follow instructions well) but well worth it.

One bottle covered my 20ft camping trailer 4 coats and with a little remaining for future touch ups. It definitely increases the gloss. I'm glad I didn't waste my time with wax. This is like an easy wipe on clear coat. I will report back in the future for longevity.

poli glow shine
its works great .when applying more coats the shinier it gets i used on several old boats because the florida sun bakes the jell coat right off and no wax made can withstand salty seas , so why not ,, when you apply use the mit and don't gob it on .. nice and easy and recoat in five minutes when you get to about five coats you will be amazed.looks like new .. just a tip also after about a year or so and you want to re apply,, go to your local hardware store and get a gallon of high strength or non diluted floor stripper and put in spray bottle and use to remove old poli-glow also great for cleaning stubborn stains [ i use full strength ] just spray on and brush with a scrub brush and rinse ..and let dry and re apply ,, its also works on car faded bumpers ,, also never use harsh cleaners it will cause streaking the best thing i have found for cleaning the boat after poli glow was put on is car wash from auto store with wax or not it seems not to hurt the shine . it reminds me of mop an glow,,.
